Liquid mercury...manometer
06/16/10 10:17 AM

If mercury is drawn into a ZX-14(manometer) will the liquid mercury harden when subjected to the heat and engine oil in the crankcase??? My friend drained his oil and found what looks like mercury balls in the dirty oil. He had a dyno tune done and the TB sync done. I advised him to use a glove and see if the silver material was soft....no it is like sand in hardness but still looks like liquid mercury. Dropped the pan and it was clean???
Thanks
Louis

It turns out he did Not have the TB touched. I Googled Element Mercury and found out you have cool liquid mercury Really cold to get it solid form. He has found small round silver balls in a drain pan that was clean before a oil change. The silver crud is hard like sand but smooth. Going to pull plugs and use bore scope and check for mising metal in engine parts.

OR....(here I go again)...he could buy a magnetized drain bolt(or magnetize the one he's got).Ride as you said.Then check er out...if it's aluminum,it won't attach to the drain bolt.

Oil filter was clean.no metal. Magnet will Not pick up the dozens of small round smooth metal that was in dirty oil.
6500 miles and a brocks AH and map. Never been to Drag Strip. Never run low on oil and always serviced ever 2500 miles. This not my Zx-14, trying to help a friend. I am in my 50's and have had a lot of jap bikes and I have NEVER seen this crud come out of a engine.??? Feels like sand but smooth and silver like mercury????. Oil pump gears press the metal smooth?? But Round Balls???????? Weird... got me on this one. Will check with bore scope and do leak down and pull clutch cover and look at pressure plate and check T.I.R. of basket while I am in there.

Pic's of his metal problem on Bikeland in the ZX-14 section............ topic is crud in oil Oilfieldtrash
is his nick name.
Thanks
Louis
