Help finding an exhaust bracket!
04/11/16 1:01 PM

I see on older posts that folks have some clean looking exhaust brackets where I can remove the rear peg assembly and use something cleaner and lighter looking. However, I have not had any luck finding a company that still makes them. Anybody have a lead other than Home Depot or Lowes where I can still get a bracket?

Schnitz has the one I use, $70. RH side only. Eliminate both exhaust hangers with footpegs, 2 lb, 0.50 oz. Add the aluminum tube/3 bung hanger, 5.35 oz. You can keep OEM exhaust hanger bolts but I went with aluminum bolts with spacers and cone washers on both sides. ABout 3 oz which is prollly about the same weight as OEM screws.

Check if it fits the gen2.

The one Schnitz used to sell was from two wheel werks, last time I checked he wasn't going to make any more. There are aluminum, titanium and CF ones listed on webike Japan.

The Schnitz on is no longer available, I already emailed to confirm. Also emailed Two Wheel Works directly. That ebay link above is still active and that is the one I went with. Only need one side and it was pricy but its the price you pay if you dont want to spend an afternoon building one yourself.

Very good, Darkarcher. I got mine from 2wheelworkz. Think I went thruogh the same process of elimination 7 years ago. It's amazing how long invalid stuff stays on the internet. It's a very nice muffler bracket. I would prefer the one with both tubes straight but that was actually more for the zx-10. I guess they thought the 14 might need a little more support so they went wit the arched tube on the bottom.

You are 100% right about making your own parts. There is no reason to copy parts that are already manufactured unless you have the tools and enjoy fabbing. It usually ends up costing just as much + all your time. I think the cheap copies made in Asia are usually very well crafted but to each his own how he goes about that business.

I went with aluminum bolts with spacers and cone washers on both sides.

Rook where did you get those "cone" washers? They look really good.

edit - Guess wasn't to hard to find once I googled "cone washers" pro-bolts got them to start with.

yep. Pro-bolts. If you are interested in using the same setup, The OEM bolt for the muffler tap is larger than the bolts that hold the bracket to the frame. There is no cone washer large enough for that muffler tab bolt so I just used the same sized bolt/nut as was used for the muffler hanger/frame. Also, you will need a longer bolt than OEM because the head of the bolt is not at the bottom of the muffler hanger bung, it's held out by the cone washer. Another thing I did was to use collars on the bolts to make a smooth shank before the threaded portion. I did this with all bolts. Pro'bolt sells the collars too. BTW, yeah, he cone washers match jusy about perfectly to the diameter of the hanger bungs. If you're interested what length bolts I used, I could check that. I think I went a little longer with mine so I could use the threads sticking out on the inside to mount some other stuff I have planned for the future.

Far as the Two wheel Workz hanger, I can’t find it in the web.

ProBolts hardware I used was as follows but I went with a couple longer bolts to make studs inside the frame. 40mm should be just right with this exhaust hanger and the cone washers.

3 Gold M8 x 40 x 1.25 socket cap bolt for flared washer you will need 41.1 mm to go through washer, hanger bung, frame so 40mm should be good.

You will need a bunch of these collars to make the shoulder on the threaded part of the bolt. Basically, you are creating a shank above the threads so the aluminum bolt will fit like the OEM bolts would. You might get by without but I recommend. I think you will need about 13 of these collars.

1 gold M8 x 1.25 flanged nut for muffler hanger tab / muffler hanger

3 gold M8 flared washers.
