New Tires needed
04/17/22 5:46 PM

Hi everyone,

My 2018 hit 3300 miles now and it’s time to change tires soon …. Rear tire looks(oem ) flat , any recommendation on new tires out there ?

Being looking at :

Bridgestone s22
Pirelli Diablo Rosso III

Any other suggestions? I would appreciate that

I need something for normal driving ( for a zx14r ) not track , mostly street and highway runs …

Hopefully someone can help out

Notice s22 are not available in many sites

Is 190/55/17 ok to fit in rear or should I stick to OEM 190/50/17 ?

You can run a 190/55-17 with no problem.

S-22 Have been my clear choice for both of my bikes "10" & "14", and have gone through a bunch of them.
I have become a Bridgestone man.
Before S-22 was going with RS10-Sticky-But short life, or lets say shorter life?
Went to 190/55 long ago.

I agree with Totalcomfort, Road 5 or newer road 6 are a very good choice for both sport and touring

I want to thank everyone for helping me make a smart decision, the amount of tire selection out there is overwhelming…

Heard going 190/55/17 rear makes the bike slower ( not going top speed anyways ) any advantage , disadvantage?

I am inclining to the S22’s to be honest , love the idea of the road 5,6 , but the cost of those is pretty high , I understand sometimes you get what you pay for but in my case and driving habits I don’t think I need any more than the s22’s …

Just bought Bridgestone S22s for my ZX14R and T23s for my Concourse 14. Michelin are good but Bridgestone has upped their game and also a good value. S22 are a great sport touring with emphasis on sport but still decent mileage. The T23s are sport touring similar to the Roads. Michelin roads have great wet weather design, the Bridgestone have less emphasis on wet but more rubber contacting the road. I don't ride much in the wet if possible.

From my experience, the 190/55 vs 190/50-stock, makes no difference. I've "experimented" with taller tire and/or 1 tooth down on the rear, to hope to not keep looking for 7th gear at "high"way speeds. The difference is minimal, and all I rcvd for my experimentation is the CODE 24/rear speed sensor failing,,,,twice. I have a thread, on my CODE 24 troubles, about year ago. So, from now on I'll stick to stock sizes of tires and sprockets. This is just my experience.

I have had great service from Shinko tires. My fave might be the 009 Ravens. I ridden them to the Tail, and all over the fun roads down there. I'm not the fastest beast on the Dragon, but I rarely get passed, and I burn off all chix strips. The Ravens perform and stick very well. I can get over 4k miles.

Last year I thought I'd try out the Mich Pilot Power for the a change on my ZX14R SE for out (nearly annual for 33 years)trip to The Dragon. Great tires, but they flop at very slow turns, like turning a corner from a stop. My XXs and my ZX14R SE only ever did this when the tires were worn, generally flattened in the center. Otherwise a great handling tire. I've also had good luck with other Shinkos, 010 Apex, 011 Verge, which used on my XXs over the 17 years of riding them. I have some brand new 005 Advance waiting for my trip back to the Dragon in Sept.

That's my .02, or a little more.

I've never been a Brand Whore. I've used take offs and recaps even. I've heard decent things about the Shinko
Raven. May try them out one day. My current favorite is the Conti Sport Attack in a 190/55-17. Really nice
neutral handling and the rear is only $124.

My post from last July, 2021.

I do only traveling, no racing, on my 14r. The set I have is Dunlop Roadsmart III. I have 10,516 miles on the front and 8980 miles on the back. I just measured 3/32" front and 7/32" back tread depth. Front was 5/32"-new and Back 9/32"-new. At that rate I could see 16,000+ miles. They handle great wet or dry.

Before Dunlop I had Mich Pilot 4. I put 11,465 mi front and 10,795 mi back. I replaced them because I was taking a 3000-mile trip.
