Looks like a fun job... bet it pays well, too!
Used to get some vertigo, but in my early twenties I took a job that involved climbing utility poles. Got over the vertigo real quick... and actually ended up being one of the funnest jobs I've had.
Wussies.

So they stick this "outside pole" up there...on the end of the cage deal.Did you guys hear WHY they did that?PPPFT....nice..like it wasn't tall enough without the extra what 20 feet of exposed climbing?Sheeesh.(no safety cords)...right.
For some reason, the idea of hitting the pavement at 190 doesn't even give me a twinge of fear. But smacking the ground from up there..ya...that just seems.....different signed..."your trusted wuss".

ROFL, Blue I'm with ya on that. My job keeps me at over a 1000 feet all the time but I could not climb out over that little square to get to the top,,,and if I did I'm not sure I could get back down. In the last 23 years I have taken guys to spots where they just freeze and can't work. Now you have a real prob. My fear is this video it might be me lol
Just to give you a idea. Not the best pick, but the good ones may get me fired, lol shhhh

I think I could hang with what that guy's doing there...at least it's inside and there's some "wide" footing.Ya...the climbing part...I think I could do...but the coming back down...freezing...ya....I could see myself freezing alright.I climbed this friggin "hill" in Yosemite one time...it was pretty steep, but lots of footholds and such to stabilize myself.....ON THE WAY UP.When I got to where I'd had enough "climbing",I looked down...sheesh...terror...that's what I felt.Fucker was WAY steep...and those footholds and such...shit....where the hell did they go?It was a while before I was able to talk myself into "trying" to go back down.I did finally...but was scared shitle@@ all the way.Never again! And I'm really NOT afraid of heights either.Looking over something like that dam or such...doesn't scare me at all.Used to climb huge trees and stuff no prob.

Yup, that guy is me, we can hang any time blue, just don't make me climb to the top ledge of that Skinny tower, No can do.
If you Freeze from fear up there, no one is coming to get you. No room for a guy doing the chicken on that stick.
but was scared shitle@@ all the way.Never again! And I'm really NOT afraid of heights
Said same thing about bungee jumping, once only. They can keep that Velcro around the ankle shit 4 the kids,,,, I did not like the sound the Velcro makes when it comes tight. It's off the bucket list.

Dog could you really climb that tower,,,, I'll be happy to buy you a weee pint when you get down
When I get down?... WTF do you think is gonna be in my tool bag?
Could I really climb it?... Yes, no doubt in my mind.
Would I really climb it?... If the price was right, yes, no doubt in my mind... No a pint would not be enough.
Really does look like a very cool job to me... Working outside, no boss breathing down your neck, and pushing yourself to do things that most people can't on a regular basis... sounds good to me.

I say...FUC^that tower.Just the idea...you know...out there on that tip thing...one slip, one lapse of concentration....BYE BYE.Nah....I'll stick with my zx.Sliding is WAY safer than FALLING.Unless of course, you happen to slide into a nice roadside tree or railing Stay safe there Romes.
I had a friend who climbed one of those water towers...ya...fun huh?Got his ass up there alright...to the very top.Dude froze...they managed to see him up there like the next morning...had to call a helicopter to get his ass down!By that time he had managed to get himself HALFWAY across the BULB thingy...the water tank..that big azz round thing.Apparently it had a "ladder" so you could climb across for service deals or something. He got stuck there.Overnight.He told me that if he'd have had to hang on any longer...he wouldn't have made it.Was ready to just let go and fall.Sheesh.

Stay safe there Romes.
Thanks Blue.
Trying to, not always easy. Like in the video, to get to your work location your not tied off. 95% people see a guy working and think he is safe because he is hooked on, but the real Question is How did he he get to that location. When your climbing must be on your A game and most of us take part for granted. You know, done this a thousand times.
After loosing my friend a couple of years ago down a 55 Floor tower, fear has found me. Not a good combo. He left five girls behind. YUK. Something I will Never forget. If anything, I now have a new found respect for workers like the ones in the above video. I'm sure to them it's no biggy.

ROFL,,,,, No throwing Beer Cans.
Could I really climb it?... Yes, no doubt in my mind.
hmmmmm, U know I have heard that one before.
When you get here I have a couple of spots I will take you,,,shhhhhhh. Don't go white knuckled on me, lol, Bring your camera.
Would I really climb it?... If the price was right, yes, no doubt in my mind... No a pint would not be enough.
Same pay as all the other trades, me thinks, give or take a dollar.
Really does look like a very cool job to me... Working outside, no boss breathing down your neck, and pushing yourself to do things that most people can't on a regular basis... sounds good to me
Extremely cool job. Like most jobs I'm sure there is a boss on the ground that makes you nuts. Good weather work only, the other 90% is on the ground.
Dog, maybe we can take in a baseball game. View may be different and wind is noisy lol Picking out your Favorite player not easy. Lots of fun though.

I knew what happened to your friend/co-worker had to have affected ya, Rick. Wasn't about to bring it up though.
And you're right, I'm sure there's still a boss barking at he climber on the radio from the ground... but I bet he says please and thank you... Don't want the climber walking off the job.
Your job has some cool views, Romans... I'd love check some of them out some time... no I won't throw the empties... pack it in, pack it out.

It's ok.
They time heals all, they just forgot to mention how much time. The weird thing is, I can tell you guys but I don't speak of it here.

have built a lot structures like in the video and photos, the second climber is at a greater risk, either one falls hooked up, your mates got 20 mins to get the weight of that harness and onto your feet or your going to die, some people even less.
building that thing, takes not just skill but you need to be fit or fatigue will be fatal
never been that high though, worked on an extension for the top of a exhaust stack it was about 17 meters tall , built it on the ground climbed all over the thing up and down for weeks building it no problems. install it on a existing stack 50 meters up . I went from hero to zero real quick.

Funny how that works, huh? You ever need to talk, Buddy, just shoot me a PM and I'll give ya my phone number.

You're right about that... I'd better get myself back into shape... 12 and 16 oz curls just aren't enough anymore.

I'll have to amend my "hell no I won't go" thing.IF...and it's only an IF...I was drinking...it'd be on.NOTHING used to scare me....If I had that pint in my bag...and got to the top...I'd be climbing down the OUTSIDE of the cage...not INSIDE!.Friggin idiot I was....amazing I made it this far.No alcohol since 2004 February.Ya...I could see me starting to drink, and the first thing I'd do...is grab the 14...in short order..I could kiss that goodbye...and possibly myself as well.Best to just leave things alone.Life is good.No sense in ruining it now!! Besides...my 14 is the best "earthly" thrill I've got....I wouldn't have fun on it anymore even riding one time intoxicated.I know...I'm strange. But happy!
