Anyone run GP shift on their ZX14?
01/01/11 10:05 PM

I want to buy a set of aftermarket rearsets for my 2009 ZX14, but I want a GP shift pattern.

Anyone have a ZX14 with GP shift pattern? What brand of rearsets are you using?

TIA

Is GP shift pattern 1 up and 5 down ?

Back in the mid-70s I was drag racing my Z1 while stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. Put a set of rearsets on it, and voila, 1 up / 5 down. Came to like it very much, especially at the drag strip. We didn't have push button shifting back then.

Yes, GP shift is one up, 5 down.

Anyone have GP shift on their ZX14 or know of an aftermarket company who makes rearsets for a GP shift pattern?

Vortex rearsets come with two rods, one for GP and one for standard shift patterns. Sato rearsets can be ordered in either standard or GP. Also, I beleive some of the chineese rearsets (ebay) might be GP shift, as for the most part, they are copies of the Vortex'x and Sato's.

I have Vortex rearsets, but have not put them on my bike yet. Keep an eye on ebay. I was able to get a brand new set for $169 shipped. I've also seen them in the Dennis Kirk Outlet for some pretty good prices.

I remember something about the sidestand being a problem for the GP shift. Check this forum:

If you don't want to bother clicking on the link, here's the relevant post:

Ran in to a glitch on setting up my GP vortex rear sets, any solutions from those that have the same set up would be appreciated; the kickstand peg (that mounts the recoil spring of the kickstand and is a welded arm from the frame stand mount) is smack in line with my shift rod when the shift knuckle is inverted for GP shift config.

Thanks!

GP shift or not, Vortex seemed to be the most adjustable rearset I could find for the 14. Good find Dogo. $169 is a total steal. Dammit, I have to start combing Ebay. Good info here on this thread. Thanks.

Isn't it just a matter of where you park the rod? Top or bottom?

I was really disappointed when I realized my 14 didn't have rear-sets stock. I hate the ol' lever off the shaft set-up! I have big-ass feet and can never get it far enough away.

I have been running GP or better know as reversed shift for years on my ZX14R and Zx10. I used ebay specials on my setup. There are 2 issues I found and fixed.

1:) needed to add spacers to get correct spacing on for shift rod angle to work correctly.
2;) needed to add spacers to lower fairing so shift rod clears.
Others have done the same when using sato rearsets.

Here's the link to my install.. Also running same setup on my new bike 2013 blk/grn ZX14r

awesome reply to a spam post, cas. I have to figure out my GP shift mod this summer. I'm hoping I might avoid the spacers by having the spring hook pins welded on the inside of the kickstand and kickstand bracket.

Rook the main reason I added the spacers is because the shift rod is at an sharp angle from rear shift point and binded on the shift lever. The spacers allow shift rod to be straight. Also for better operation of the Annitori quickshifter module.
