2013 ZZR1400 Luggage
03/15/13 3:25 AM

Hi, I'm new to this blog forum thing so I'm just finding my way around. I currently have a 2009 ZZR14. On long trips I use Givi PLX racks with V35 side cases. Having seen the 2013 ZZR at the Birmingham (UK) show I decided I needed one! Because me and er indoors do a big European trip every summer I also need to use the luggage which I know is a bit of an issue with the 2012/13 model. Here's what I've learned: -
I'm told the rear sub-frame on the 2013 ZZR is exactly the same as previous models therfore the Givi PLX racks will fit?
Dear old Kawasaki have slapped a maximum carrying weight on the 2013 model so Givi have taken a decision not to produce any luggage specifically for this model
A tail rack and top-box is available as a Kawasaki accessory
Whilst the PLX racks may fit, the V35 side cases won't go on due to the gargantuan exhaust silencers
I've read on some blogs that some owners have managed to fit V35 cases with SW Motech racks by making a small bracket to lower the exhaust silencer by up to 2 inches. I wouldn't like to do this for a number of reasons; reduced ground clearance, tension at the silencer/collector box joint, warranty implications etc etc
The 2013 ZZR1400 Performance Edition comes with Akrapovic silencers fitted as standard. Does anyone happen to know if, due to the different exhaust silencers, the Givi luggage will fit this model

Hi,
My UK kwak dealer was adamant that with the Akro's fitted the usual Givi's would fit. He undertook to take my order for a 2013 bike on the basis it came with Akro or Scorpion cans and in writing state frames/boxes would clear in all situations of load. I think you will find that as the bike has now been out a while, the dealers have told Kwak UK many times how pissed off new owers are over the luggage issue that a change of can does rectify it. I think you will find there are guy's on the ZX14R.CO.UK site that have Givi's fitted on 2012 and 13 bike's.
PS. i have yet to get SWMBO capital approval for the new bike so i 'soldier on' with my existing ZZR14!!!!

Thanks for the info...it takes me a bit closer to ordering the new model. I can't believe the bike is being touted a a sports tourer but you can't get approved luggage. If you don't mind me asking who is your dealer? P.S good luck with the capital approval! I'm already across that bridge

Well, I finally bought a 2013 ZZR. Because of the luggage issue I came very close to buying a Triumph Sprint GT, which at £9000 including all luggage was probably the sensible option, however, once you've got a ZZR in your blood it's difficult to let go, I went for a test ride on a 2013 ZZR and within minutes the decision was made.

The luggage was a bit of a compromise but I found that you can fit a Givi rack to carry a Monolock top box and side frames to carry Givi Easylock panniers, the panniers are 18 litres each but expand to 28 litres, so I don't have the luggage carrying capacity I used to get with the 2009 model fitted with V35 panniers, but I look at it this way, less luggage = less weight = more power and better fuel economy. The panniers, side frames and top box rack came to about £450.

Hi. I am looking at a new zzr1400 2013 but put off by the luggage issue. Sounds like you have gotten over this. Did you have to change the exhaust? Could you post the luggage specs please as I will do the same I think. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I bought the Performance Edition with Akrapovic silencers (as pictured above). The Givi luggage I bought is specifically designed for the 2012/2013 model and i believe will fit with the stock pipes. What you need for a full luggage set up is:-

Givi 3D600 panniers (part number TPH01) these are a cross between hard and soft and are smaller than the Givi V35s I used on my 2009 ZZR. 18 litre expanding to 28 litre (See Givi video)

Givi pannier racks (part number TE4106)

Givi monorack arms (part number 4106FZ) and a top box mounting plate to suit your top box (either monokey or monolock)
http://m.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/productdetail.mobile?id=1337

Although I have seen some examples of the silencers being lowered to accommodate luggage designed for the old model, I didn't really want to go down that route for fear of invalidating the warranty and insurance. All of the luggage above is designed for the 2013 model.

Hope this is useful but if you have any more questions just shout. N

Hi, I use a TomTom XL, which is made for the car but works just as well on the bike. I am in Spain at the moment and the SatNav has been a great help when finding hotels. I made the mount myself and will post some pictures when I get home.

Hello,
I was interested in your GIVI combo you've installed (back in 2013!) My question is, is it possible to ONLY fit the side bags (with the specific pannier rack of course), without the need for the top box rack?
