BST rims
05/19/17 6:55 AM

Hi guys, I bought a pair of BST Black Diamond rims for my kawasaki zzr 1400 2014 model. I read in the BST FAQ section the question about the weight to carry. I noticed that the wheels have been designed to carry a maximum weight of 400 kg (150 KG front and 250 KG rear. Static Load Raiting).
The problem is that I often travel with wife and luggage and normally we exceed 430 KG in total (far greater than the bearing weight of the wheels). Some of you can tell me if you have already done trips in pairs with BST and what kind of consequences I could have exceeded the limit of 400 KG
Thanks
Dario

Hi platens.

I don't know the answer to your question but those are some beautiful rims.

Considering the bike's only rated for like 380 lbs max I don't see the rims as the limitation

I think Vic is referring to the Kawasaki specced amount of weight the ZX-14 is capable of carrying safely. A lot of 200+ lb riders have carried an adult passenger. It might be pushing the limits of the suspension but the bike is capable of carrying that and then some. I'm not sure I would want to carry a passenger way over 200 lbs on that skinny tail frame but I have carried a 200 pounder on the back of my bike along with my own 200 lbs up front. The big girl didn't bend anything and the bike still could run away from a fast car carrying us both.

I can't say how well BST rims would handle such a load but the 14 is up to it.

If I had BSTs and I planned to carry my big ol girlfriend again along with luggage, I think I would invest in a trailer...for the GF.

My comment was more for thought than anything. I guess next time someone ask this question we should have someone to answer!
