Shorai from Amazon's The Outlet
05/28/13 6:11 PM

Ordered a Shorai battery off of Amazon's The Outlet on 05/21/2013 and received it 05/28/2013 (through Memorial Day weekend). I ordered a LFX21A6-BS12 for $179.12, no tax & no shipping. Good price & fast shipping. Battery feels like a plastic toy compared to the original. Dimensionally the Shorai 21A is only slightly smaller than the 14A original. I used one 5mm and one 10mm piece of the supplied foam for the bottom of the battery tray to make the retaining strap tight (probably not needed). So, good provider and so far a good product.

congrats.....great weight loss mod.

I was pondering the smallest 12v for the busa. Weighs about .9 pound but I doubt it would be of much use in the cooler weather. The 14 Ah is only .25 lbs heavier. That's a s small as I thinkI will go.

Mine is just fine going into its 4th year of service. Has outlasted the OEM so I'm happy.

So far, so good with mine. Popped it in and never thought about it again. Still starts fast every time.

I have an experience to share with you guys. Once I was in a remote place, my signal in my phone got jammed, i thought the problem would be with my service provider. After coming back home i gave black and blues to my customer care highlighting my issue. They pleaded me saying that the problem is not with them. Then i browsed through the search engine regarding my issue, i got a remedy for my cell phone, there i came to know the problem called signal jamming that is experienced in most cell phones. They have a product called cell phone jammer could be very useful to get rid of these problems. Check out the details here phone jamming device and hope this information would be beneficial. Hope that u would pass this information to all your friends, so that they too would benefited, Stay safe, Cheers

hey, guess whaT? I cranked up the 14 today and it started right up after sitting 5 months. Still have not changed plugs. The trick is to put the battery on CHARGE mode for a few hours before it come out of storage. STORE mode keeps it at or below 90%.

Weird thing, the Shorai battery maintainer should go to solid green when the charge is complete but mine flashes alternting from yellow to green which indicates some kind of error code? IDK--the battery went to 13.8 volts and started after about 4 turns. cha cha cha cha rerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmm. If this goes like last year, it will gradually get up to 14 V or a little better after I ride the bike for a week and that's where it will stay all summer.

43,100 miles on the bike.

The Shorai battery was charged for about two hours prior to start up. The volmeter indicated 13.8 V. The engine started after 4 strokes. Bike ran well. The Voltmeter indicated a drop in battery voltage after running for about 30 minutes. The voltage was at 12.5 after the bike was shut down for about 10 hours. the engine turned slow and backfired.

The Shorai charger is showing an alternating flashing of the two indicator lights when the battery is put into CHARGE mode. This means the battery was more than 50% discharged. After the battery is charged, I see both lights flash together which indicates some sort of error.

The Shorai seemed to be showing signs of this behavior since this time last year. I think I need a new battery. The OEM battery was replaced with the Shorai on 04/11/11. Both batteries lasted 3 years. I might still get some service out of the Shorai if I’m willing to charge it every time before I ride.

Well, my cats! Now I have a solid light on CHARGE which indicates the charge is complete!! Maybe all is ok. Maybe the Shorai just needs a little wake up time after being stored so long?

Like I mentioned above, the Shorai was showing some suspiscious behavior this time last year. Made it through the summer fine after a week of riding the voltage was always at 14+. I'll update his thread as soon as I know anything for sure.

ok, been about a week. NO PROBLEMS at all! Yes, it seems the Shorai does need a wake up after a long storage on the maintainer. Wisj I would have paid better attention to what was going on the first time I put the battery on CHARGE after it had been in STORE mode for months. I did charge it a few hours but it was dead the next day.

SO I put it on CHARGE a second time. Left it over night. Next day, the CHARGE light was solid indicating a fully charged battery. The thing has been at 13.1~13.2 V every morning. Turns the engine about 7 or 8 times and she fires right up. The voltmeter reads 13.9 ~ 14.2 when the bike is running. I think I went through this all last Spring. Just a false alarm. Now I expect the Shorai will give me another season of good service just like it did last year.

I put one in my C14, it is smaller and much lighter than OEM. The weight savings is not all that valuable to me, but the extra cranking power and longevity is.

Rook, I'm thinking about a Shorai for the 14 - when you say a winter on the maintainer is that a trickle charger?

It's the Shoarai maintainer/charger. #SHO-BMS01

I would not use a normal maintainer like a Battery Tender on a Shoarai. I've done it and it seemed to work but it apparently does not balance the cells. Only a Shorai charger can do that. I've used the BMS01 set on MAINTAIN during winter storage the last 6 years. It keeps the battery at 80% charge. Put the BMS01 in CHARGE mode over night before taking the bike out of storage. I have not needed to use the charger any other time than storage. It has sat for a couple months without being on a maintainer and still holds a decent charge. The Shorai was installed in 2010 and still going strong. Hope it keeps up with the increased electrical demands i will put on it next summer. Four lighted gauges and a NOS system. Mine is smaller than Shorai recommends but has identical voltage/amps specs as OEM.
