New toy!
08/22/15 12:32 AM

We had another track day at The Ridge Motorsports Park on 8/16, and I got to put my new (to me) 2009 ZX-10R through its paces. Certainly quicker and better handling than the 14R, although I do miss the torque.

Sebastian was out there, too, keeping the faith with Priscilla:

That first photo is a great shot ! I had a Bell helmet back in the 1980's.. and never bought one again. I've had only Shoei, Arai and Suomy...kind of like the newer Bell lids.. Which model is the one you have? your impressions?

Looks like the Star model but not certain. Less $$$ than the ones I'd mentioned but really thinking of buying one...well another helmet because I just bought another sick looking graphic Shoei.

That helmet is the Star Carbon Dunlop.

Several of us on the OPRT staff have been running Bell Stars for years. Reliable, aerodynamic, and excellent fit/finish.

More picture porn!

Cool, just bought another SHoei the newer one RF1200.. I have a 1100 and completely love the fit and looks. I may consider a Bell on the next round...maybe that model you'd mentioned. Very nice.

Speaking of nice, great photos. I have the knee-down-scraping pucks down but still need to work on the elbows? LOL

What kind of tires are those? I have PP2 but looking to get the DLQ3

As we know, tires are extremely important for those kinds of lean angles.

On the ZX-10R in the photos, I'm running Pirelli Superbike SC1 slicks.

For my street bikes I use Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires. They're the stickiest street tires that Pirelli makes, and you can get them in a 200/55.

Tires are all about preference. Everybody's riding style, feedback preference, and bike type will play a major role in what tires work best. For me, the softer carcass and flex of the Pirelli tires tends to be more forgiving of my Neanderthal-ish approach to brake and throttle usage.

I've run Q3s on this monster before. For semi-aggressive street rides they performed very well, if a bit on the stiff and harsh side. Once the pace started to pick up I found them unequal to the task of keeping the rear from spinning up when driving off corners. YMMV.

Was wondering why my front wasn't coming up in 2nd gear coming out of turn 16 onto the strait. Didn't feel like I was drifting but I could definitely hear the RPMs off the pit wall.

Not surprising. These beasts make up to 50% more torque than most literbikes!

Next season I'll need to probably pick up some tires so besides the Q3s' I'll check those Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires out as well.
