RACKS
03/27/09 7:08 PM

Hi all,

Firstly allow me to express how proud I am to be part of this forum!

I am very new at this, but I can honestly say that I am appreciating my ZX14 more after reading so many knowledgeable threads.

Could someone please advise me on a reputable rack for my ZX 2006? Besides the Ventura system, I really don’t know of anything else I could source out for my top-box.

I am also trying to find some spike caps for my front forks.

If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it

Cheers

Ces

Hi GUAONE, had the same issue with my 08 didn't like the ventura system so I made my own
Not as hard as you may think if you've got a mate that can weld and a tube bender cost about $40 for steel.
If you want I'll post some pictures. not sure how to do that but if you want I'll try
Mine was to suit a Gearsac bag. but could go either way.

Welcome GUAONE. Our European friend seem to have more experience with bike racks,. I hope they will be able to share more in regards to your topic.

BTW, are those Staintune pipes you have on?

Feuwweee!! Correcting first term-semester assessments was not fun at all!!
My mind was on the job, but my heart was on my Zx and the fact that I have had no time to buff my new Road Smart treads, it felt like it was defeating the purpose of getting them in the first place, not to mention also my new Alpine Star Supertech R Boots on the shelf, starring at me practically saying “fool are we rolling or what? Anyway enough!! Self pity.

Thanks for your reply Ethin. I am curious to see what your set up looks like if it’s not too much trouble posting the picture. The set up would have to be compatible with the 48 liter top-box that I already have

Also many thanks to you Steven, for a warm welcome to this exiting forum. I just hope I can get more time to chat. In regards to the pipes, they are called Maz. If you want me to find out more just let me know

Cheers

I use SW Motech with Givi Bags: I got them online from Twisted Throttle.

I am on vacation in the Caribbean with a really sloooowwww connection. I will post pictures as soon as I can get a decent connection.

Ethin14, could you please post a pic or two of your top rack showing more detail and how you mounted the rack. I want to design a rack to accomodate my Givi top case used in conjuction with my side cases. From what I can see your design would not interfere with my sw motech side racks.

I've got the SW Motech subular sides with the Givi V35's also...thinking of going with the SW Motech rear rack next so I can mount a topcase. Only just ordered the required euro spec tailpiece, will order the rack next week.

Hope the Photo's are a help, have made a rack for a Givi top box to go on a Sachs 650 , Box came with a mounting plate. The Top box then is removeable off that plate , the plate is bolted to the frame you supply or make

In the photo I picked up the heavy mounting points, the female threads under the small v shaped tail section, put holes through to connect the rack to the main tail frame .

If you get to the point that you might proceed with makeing your own , I can give you more detail. you will need to have the tools, time & skill to do this one.

Hope this helps

Just got an inquiry from Cruderudy regarding my rack. So I am invading this thread.

I bought it in Japan and brought it back. Installation requires mods to the side fairings. I like the look, though. I paid $100 for the rack. Maddevil made an awesome rack out of Vstorm 650. I believe his thread is somewhere in this forum. I would recommend Mad's method - much less expensive.
