60,000 kms and my chain is done. I am going to replace chain and both sprockets. What are you running and what do you recommend and where do you buy?

EK ZZZ has been on my bike for 30k miles. I think I adjusted it two or three times when new and again when I switched rear sprocket but that's it. I can't remember if I ever needed to adjust it after it wore in.

The ZZZ is no longer made but EK has updated it. I believe it is this one. Good deal here.

I'm going to need to change sprockets soon. I have used two aluminum rear sprockets about halfway with the same steel front. I have not measured the chain stretch but I doubt it is even close to being used up.

The local stealership is getting the EK 530 ZVX chain in for me and also a Vortex aluminum rear and steel front sprockets. I've dealt with these guys for a very long time and always get my 15% discount so the pricing is pretty much the same as the internet. I will pay sales tax on these but it's a small price to pay in favour of supporting your local business.

That's the best setup for me. An aluminum rear and steel front seems to wear at about the same rate. Vortex is going to be the lightest aluminum rear sprocket.

Just installed a ZVX3 on mine with JT sprockets...all i run is EK chains...

On the off chance you might have put that on the scale, mind posting the weight...and # of pins?

Standard Length on the 2008 is 116 links as per the Kawasaki Workshop Manual. ( the chain will be 120 links and the dealer will cut it to length)

I'm not sure that I have a set of scales in the house but will try and figure it out for you when they arrive.

Thanks. Do you want to run a 200/55 or 200/60 tire? If so, you might need an extra link. I use a 45 Tooth sprocket and 200/55 tire. The tire has very little clearance with the crotch of the swingarm and I have 118 pins. Pretty sure I could not fit a 200/60 unless I went down to a 43 or 41 T.

Hey Rook, how's it going?
I haven't forgot about weighing the chain and sprockets. I've just been super busy and not got around to doing it.
I was away for 5 weeks on a cross Canada /USA trip so when I got back I had 5 weeks worth of STUFF to catch up on.
On top of that I've been behind the "8 Ball" on getting the bike ready for Bonneville which is in a weeks time so the ZX14 had to take second place to the Triumph.
I'm hoping to get the chain and sprockets done this Sunday, if that happens I will post the weights for you

Never heard of an aluminum sprocket that would last as long as a stock front steel. Just pulled mine with 74,000 miles. It's done and could have been changed sooner, but no way an aluminum rear would have lasted a third as long.

My Supersprox rear had 52,000 miles and is barely worn, And no, I don't always change both sprockets and the chain at the same time, although I am this time. This thing wore out the chain that came on the bike and three more.

I'll have to have a look at mine soon, Danno. I've actually had two aluminum rear sprockets with my steel front but the first was not worn out yet. Now that the second is mostly used up, I'm expecting the front will be all but shot.

Sorry I took so long. Here is the info you requested.
The 2.5kg / 5.6lbs is for 116 pins on an EK 530 chain. ( the chain was originally 120 pins )
Drive sprocket is steel.
Rear sprocket is aluminum.

Same weight as my OEM give or take a few 10th oz. Same for my old EK ZZZ on the 14. I think I'll go with the zvx for my busa. Wish they made it with black inner and outer plates but I can't find any chain like that. Black outer will have to do.
