Finally...
12/26/14 10:23 AM

Decided it was time to get an actual set of riding gear. Two piece Dianese suit...fits perfect;)Boots are way cool...Suit is Full leather all around(except for the crotch stretch panels) .The boots have this softer pliable material on the upper portion there...but inside...full on armor and protection. Can be worn with pants inside or over that patch...took the toe sliders off...but they are sweet...zips up the back on the boots.VERY NICE knee armor as well...shin also.Took that out for now...also got this Arai...sunvisor equipped...

Help me understand the aerodynamic qualities of an external sun visor. Seems like it will add noise and drag...

Nope...aerodynamically designed for that very thing.Shaping...size...fitment...all designed in.Much better really than one you have to raise or lower from the inside. Can be ridden with the visor(sun)in the full up position or anywhere in between. It's a very good design. The clear visor also has a silicone tint 'visor' that fits into the main visor.Kind of an inset shape to the clear one.Connects to the pin locks inside the main visor...Very cool. This inset visor is a light yellowish tint...kind of makes everything stand out more...rather than a smoked one...nice.

That's some great kit you got there! That's what I'm aim for next season.

When I had my previous bike back in the 90s, I (basically) never wore gear. I really enjoyed that. This season, and my future is the exact opposite of that. I am truly ATGATT now. It's really surprised me that it hasn't detracted from my riding enjoyment in the least bit and even in some ways more enjoyable.

The most important thing about the Arai sun shade on the outside is this :

"The new Arai PRO Shade is different since it is installed outside on the outer shell, so, the safety of the shell is not compromised."

Article Here !!!!

That Arai is going to match the H2 Great !!!!

Congrats on the top shelf gear!

I'm curious why you spent the cash on quality protective gear, then rendered it less effective by removing sliders and armor?

I got one of the Arai Pro shades right after they first came out and love it! No noise at ANY speed, easy to use. The only thing I wish they would have done is make it come down a little farther, probably has to do with the aerodynamics. Also wish Arai would put a ratchet on their shields so you could prop them open a notch or two in hot weather or around in town but know they won't for safety reasons.

Grn14 love your gear, looks great! Dainese makes great quality stuff!

...this lid has the ratcheted visor(s).

"is make it come down a little farther"...this one does come down at least to the halfway point...which is perfect.I used to tape the visors on my other lids for a sun block...and that wasn't as far down as this one drops...plus I can SEE through it;)
"then rendered it less effective by removing sliders and armor?"
..just took the knee/shin armor out temporarily to be able to wear a bit in the house here.Kinda break it in a bit.The armor's going back in come riding season;)This gear fits very nice...it really is quality leather.Compared to some other 'quality' leather kit I have...these are gonna get a LOT of use.

I have an Arai Signet-Q. The Pro Shade is either up or down and the primary shield dosen't have any ratchet to it, it has some friction which will sort of hold it up but not as well as say a Shoei which I have also. Grn14 I'm like you and have taped the shields on a lot of my helmets, just would have preferred to have the sun shield cover all the way down, still love it anyway!

Wearing your leather around the house is a great way to break it in, leather needs a little heat to stretch and winter at home is a good way to get it started. Good thing about Dainese is they use top grade leather and it doesn't need as much "break-in." Dainese gear is always a good choice!

Hmmm...yes...you're right...it doesn't actually 'ratchet'...I thought it did ..but it does as you say have some friction...sa'll good..it will open partially if I need that in summer or something.;)

"Grn it'd be great if you'd do a review on your gear"

..well...really not a lot to say about it...the leather is very supple...stitching is very good..The two pieces zip together nicely.Has a perforated inner lining...allowing smooth donning and doffing. The armor is very good...not bulky..stays in place...and is removable as well. Two lower leg zip ups...one for complete closure over or under boots, the other parallel to it for allowing some room for your calves. All totally zipped...fit is mildly snug but very pliable...so the snug feeling is not annoying...the joint areas have a nice bendable feel to em...not stiff or chafing. Two outside side hand pockets...which is nice...zip up.It's fairly simple actually...they seemed to get all the right features in the right spots, and did an excellent job(IMO)with designing these two pieces as one unit. The leather is 'somewhat' thick...it feels like it anyway...but the overall 'suit' is NOT heavy. When I put everything on...cinch everything up...including the boots..it really feels like a second skin...it isn't binding or chafing anywhere.I'm very sure this leather will protect anyone in a fall or slide. The boots(Dianese)were pretty much designed for this suit as well...and are very stout..with internal protection on top of the foot(which is very well concealed)and at the ankles and up to the top of the boot. They attach via velcro to the inside of the pant leg,or to the outside(around a pantleg).Well constructed and thought out. They zip up at the rear...removing and putting them on is very easy. They, like the suit, are supple...not stiff...I'm sure with some minimal use they'll get even more form fitting.I've had several brands of boots...these are the best fitting and feeling yet.
