Grease Monkey

Well, I FINALLY got some way overdue maintenance done on the KNGKAWI. Rode through the fog over to my friend Georges house since he has a garage and electrical power which is something my storage unit seems to run out of.
First job, oil and filter. Changed out the Motul 300V ( $12 a qt) for some Rotella T6 ( $23 a gallon). We've been using it in my son's Z1000 and it seems really good. Next, countershaft cover off. I took all the perimeter bolts out and the cover still didn't budge. Then a little voice mentioned something about one of the clutch slave cylinder bolts being involved. Found the LONG one and the cover came right off. I was changing my gearing to 16-42 ( for more recommended wheelies... ) and SURPRISE!!! My bike already HAD a Sunstar 16T countershaft. It was worn so, after going through 3 impact guns, we finally got it off. Put the rear on and a new RK chain. Finished by installing the Speedo Healer I bought off this forum like 2 years ago, ( I did say I was overdue... ). Buttoned everything back up. I realized that George hadn't got the tank cover installed correctly so we took it back off. And OF COURSE, he dropped the bolt down the fairing where we heard it bounce off several things but never hit the ground... Soooo, formans off, air duct covers off. Lots of flashlight and magnet and we eventually found it. Whew!
Did the assembling right this time and programmed the SpeedoHealer. -12.9 was the number. Took it around the block to make sure everything was working and, for the first time since I've owned this bike, the speedo is accurate.
YAY! So, off to Moss Beach for a big Chicken Burrito. Then back home to watch MotoGP.
Today I'm sore but glad this is finished. Next up, steel brake lines and new pads...

When I bought the bike it had 39k on it. It now registers 73k, but subtract around 12% due to the speedo error so somewhere in the mid 60k range. Still runs like a top. I do want to improve the braking performance though. Rode my friend's SV650 and almost went over the bars when I hit the brakes.
