Dimple in my oil pan ??
05/17/09 5:27 PM

First of all..my first post on this new forum. I remember lots of the folks here and there is much collective wisdom here. This may be in the wrong section but let me ask anyway.
I just bought an 09 Monster Energy 14 and while doing the first oil change noticed a dimple ( for lack of a better word) in the oil pan just aft of the oil drain bolt, right in the mid-line of the oilpan towards the rear of the sump. It is just large enough to place the tip of your index finger inside. At first glance I feared I had hit something or an object in the road had knocked a dent in it because the paint looked kind of boogered up. I looked at the other 09 model in the showroom and it had the same spot. I'm positive my 06 model did not have this spot as I lowered it for Maxton and payed close attention to the pan.
Not being paranoid but wondering if anyone else has noticed this on thier bike ??
Thanks for looking....btw..anybody heard from "Wrongway" ?

It's on the bottom.NO ONE will ever know it's there-but YOU!.There's nothin wrong(IMO),just an odd spot in the pan.I wouldn't worry 'bout it!(My 07 doesn't have that spot either!!!).They did say they were putting some upgrades to the NEW NINJAS ............... By Golly wfobusa-just went out an looked at mine. WooHoo-there she is-pretty as ya please. A dimple-big enough to stick yer index finger tip into!!!!Aint that somthin!!!!Never saw that before. She aint leakin-I aint worrying(like I said to you!!!!) I went on the cheapcycleparts fiche-oil pan pics-looks like it's part of the casting for a "tower"(for lack of a better description) of some sort INSIDE the pan itself.(how in the world did you EVER notice THAT?????!!)

I actually noticed it while installing the Muzzy slip-ons amd was on my back checking out the underneath. I'm fairly certain my 06 wasn't like that. Maybe it was the same but I surely dont remember seeing that..looks exactly like an oil-pan bash. My mechanic stated as you said that it has something to do with the inside of the pan..He owns an 07 model and said he'd be checking his pan when he got home..
btw...compared to my original 14, this 09 model definitely has improved low and mid range torque. I see no need to remove the secondaries and am content with the stock ecu as well...for now anyway

My '06 has a dimple that is similar in size and location as on your '09. Mine is just a few years older.

This has got my curiosity going! hang on I'm going out to the garage right now! - OMG ! I have a tiny dimple on my 06! (could just be big fingers = big wait, different section to post this) this also means that there is a pimple on the inside of the pan - I will monitor this discovery and keep everyone informed if there are any changes in size or depth.
Now I have to wash my fingers as they are quite filthy - so is my keyboard - so is my mind, etc. etc.

IF that's a dimple, and Paladin says "there's a pimple" in the pan-Maybe we should pick a peck of dimpled pimples-like Peter Piper picked(in case our Pan hits the fan).An if that pimple pops-will it mix with the oil in our goil, and make the sightglass sightless with green goo like the kind that we blew from our Nooos on our cold morning cruise?Should we write Kawasaki and tell them we're worried about the Pimple in our Pan?I can see the letter from Kawi now-"Dear Kawasaki Owners. It has been recently brought to our attention the fact that all zx14 ninja motorcycles between the years of 06 through 09 have a systemic problem concerning the oil pan. This recall notice has been sent to you in accordance with our safety policy. The Pimple inside the oil pan needs to IMMEDIATELY be inspected by an authorized Kawasaki Dealer. This Pimple is visible as a Dimple on the underside of the oil pan.It should be no more than the tip of the index finger deep.Since most hands are of differing sizes, the actual progress of the Pimple must be measured by a qualified Kawasaki Mechanic. We are concerned that the Pimple is actually the beginning of a BOIL,which will, if allowed to progress, create an unsafe riding condition known as PimplePanHandling. This is a potentially dangerous condition characterized by green goo in the once visible sightglass-and occurs when riding the motorcycle at high speeds-clogging oil return lines accompanied by complete engine failure, causing the rider to be struck from behind by the angry cager he just passed".

I had forgotten all about the SIGHT GLASS ! so I went back to the garage and stared at the glass for 20 minuits - guess what! - the sight glass can not see anything looking like a pimple or dimple !
Could my sight glass be defective? Do I need a new one? is there a sight glass recall?
What the heck should I do now?
Would beer help?
Should I drain out the oil and try again?
Help! aaarrggghhhh!

The bike is so bulletproof you have to pick pimples at it? I have a news release copy from Kawi. The bulletin came in the male, right here. Let me read it if you didn't receive yours yet.

"Stop: That glass will clear up if you moved out of those PimplePanHandle States. Stop: Pit!" Yer killing me, Larry!
