@ Extrapolator, the Uniden suction cups have performed flawlessly over the past three months.

The R1 is an exceptional detector for use on the highway, but the R3 with its GPS prowess is particularly well-suited to both highway and city driving. In one sentence I can surmise this entire review: I believe the R1 and R3 are simply the best radar detectors you can drive with today, regardless of price. so you can check it here https://www.colereview.com/uniden-r3-review/ also here https://www.uniden.com/shop/automotive/extreme-long-range-laser-radar-detector-with-gps/ or you can buy it from bestbuy from this link https://www.bestbuy.com/site/uniden-r3-dsp-long-range-radar-laser-detector-matte-black/6188301.p?skuId=6188301&intl=nosplash

I was thinking the same thing being that this person just joined and its their first post, although I would expect that they would have linked to their company's specific website to purchase and not a reseller like bestbuy. Its entirely possible they have been viewing the forums for a while but never signed up until now... or they're a "telemarketer" :)

The R3 sounds like a winner. I have an Escort Redline and I use a Marc Parnes LED radar alert plugged in to an earphone jack on the side of the unit. Can you do that with the Uniden?
JohnEmo does sound like a fan boy but could have been lurking about for awhile so I won't judge. I agree with his assessment though the R1/R3 are fantastic and yes you can use a standard 3.5mm bayonet for your earphones. I run the Plugphones which offer supreme road noise suppression 25dB and clear warnings.

Extrapolator, the Uniden suction cups performed flawlessly over hundreds of rides over the last 12 months but the bracket finally cracked from road vibration and was starting to let go. I found an inexpensive three suction cup bracket for Uniden R1/R3 online for about $8 and it's even better than the original. The third cup anchors the detector against any unwanted motion in the bumps. One of my riding buddies liked my setup so well he copied it for his BMW S1000RR and Bimoto YB4. I give the R3 a solid 5 star rating for outstanding performance over the past year.

Seems like rather than a visual warning, such as blinking red lights, the best alert would be an audible "COP! COP! COP!" ... or would the false alarms make that annoying?
After all, when riding with my buds with our intercoms on, when we see a cop we yell, "COP! COP! COP!"
Haha ... it's true.

Extrapolator, the original OEM suction cups were still working perfectly, the steel bracket cracked in the bend as I was always bending it up and down to suit the angle of the windshields on the various machines. There was also a lot of unwanted up and down flex in the two suction cup setup which the three cup eliminates, it's solid and the angle seems to work well with all the bikes. The trick I found on the suction cups is to use saliva, not water and let them sit for about an hour before riding. In the last year I never had a single suction cup give up, in fact, after a few hours of riding they had to be peeled off to break the suction.

The Plugphones are a really good solution for the audible alert as the high pitch scream on Ka band alerts really get's your attention. I've lost count of how many times this thing has saved my bacon, last episode was a few days ago with popo hiding back off the road in the trees on a blind curve.

If you are ever out this way, I'll mount this setup on your bike to try out, takes all of five minutes to adapt to another machine and I can tell you, once you get used to having one, you'll never ride without it again.

I used a RAM mount for mine.Installed ram mount into steering stem w/supplied hardware.Bought a three inch adapter for it.Epoxied a ram mount on the detector plate(can be bought only the ball mount and plate it's attached to),ground a bit of material off the adapter so it would sit at an angle(for lining up horizontal).Works excellent. Not using it right now,but have had it on both my bikes.Redline Detecter.Very nice. Also added the small speaker that can be bought for it.Mounted that down below at the fork triple tree area.

I have been running Escort 9500ix for many years, and others before that. I used the Adaptive triple tree mount on my XX and now on my 16 ZX14R. On the XX I used 2 of the 3" extenders so it would "see" out the windscreen. On the ZX14 I only need the single 3" to "see".
I just traded in the 9500ix for the 360 MAX to avoid many of the false alarms. I use "soft" velcro on the on the bottom of the detector and the "rough" velcro on the Adaptiv mount. I have never had a detector come off at speeds in excess on of 160 (in BF Egypt of course) and all day blasting across the country at steady 85 to 95 cruising, with my 80 plus year old dad on his 650 Ninja. He puts his Escort Solo, now an Escort X80, in the map pocket on his tank bag. We both use the ear plug so we hear instantly when we are being watched. I don't leave home without it.

Agreed, I can't ride to the local grocery store without my detector running. Don't know how I ran all those years without one, should be considered essential equipment for any sportbike.
