Blacklightning what did you go with a C14 or a zx14? I am back and forth but leaning towards the zx. Either way it is buy a zx and put some comfort mods or a C14 and do some performance upgrades.... Either way Im going to drop a bunch of money and dont want to make the wrong decision..

For those that have traded out the M109R, any regrets? I am about to do the same...

I've ridden an M109...and hated it. Cool looking, but it never had the "umphhh" that I expected with that size motor, the pegs scrapped really quickly, & it felt like it was in 6th gear all the time. Have you had any issues with your transmission?

Anyway, my partner traded his in for a 14 and Loved it, then again, he sold it shortly thereafter and bought the new Honda something. He has more money than brains, so I guess he would not be a good example.

I honestly believe that you cannot go wrong with a 14. Its a bike that does everything fairly well, and somethings it really shines on.

fwiw, 6'2" 280...and this bike fits really well.

Thanks for the input. I have been really happy with my M109R. PCIII, straight Cobra pipes, Ported and polished heads and the 280 rear end always made me feel like it would slide opout from under you. It is impossible for you to relate if you have ridden the zx14 for a while though. When I started riding it was on a 1969 Honda Mini Trail Z50. At the time that felt fast. Boy was the next bike I got a huge rush after that one... A 1974 Honda ST90!
So as far as speed goes, it is all relative to what your expirience is. When I got my R1 the M109R felt incredibly slow. There is something to be said for it, either you love the looks or hate it.

I think I got the best of both worlds. I do about 50% of my riding with my cruiser buddies. When I am with them, I ride the M109. The week before I was going to trade in the 109, we went for a nice about 200 mile ride. There was nothing like it, and made me realize how out of place I would have felt on a sport bike. I decided to hold on to the M109, and came across a killer deal on a 2003 zzr1200. It has more power than C14, and looks pretty good with the corbin bags and seat. More comfortable than the zx14, and nearly as much power below 7-8k rpm, which is where I ride. I am 250lb., and 6'-2" tall and feel very comfortable. Now I am able to have 2 bikes for less than the price of either one of my other choices.
If I had to choose between the zx14 and the C14, I would possibly go with the zx, but after a while regrett it and want to settle down with a C14. If I had chosen the C14, I would always be looking and lusting after her younger and prettier sister (the zx14r). With the choice that I made, I can ride with my cruiser buddies on the nine, and still cut it up on the zzr1200 with my sport bike buddies. I don't ride with a lot of sport bike friends because they have a tendacy to push things to the edge more, and then the competitive side of me comes out and I may do something stupid. At my age, I now know better.

This is my M109, and is set up with the corbin bags and fairing which comes in handy for hauling stuff. I have since removed the fairing and bags for the summer and like the naked look better. The bags are nice for hauling extra gear in the winter when the weather changes more suddenly, and the fairing will keep the wind out of your face.
As for choices, I am not the best one to ask. I have been riding 6 years, and owned 9 bikes.

bkgraham33, I have a 2008 ZX-14 and love it but at some point I will be getting a Concours 14 or an FJR 1300. Although the ZX is just amazing, it still puts pressure on my wrists when I have a chick on the back that doesn't happen on the Connie. I rode a 2010 Connie for a little bit before buying the ZX and after 8 hours of riding the Connie there was zero fatigue at all. I mean, zero. That same 8 hours of backroad riding in the high country of Washington State would definitely tire me out on the ZX. And the acceleration of the Connie, up to about 140, is fricken amazing. VERY strong, as in ZX-14 strong. But if it came down to choosing one over the other, I'd go with the ZX in an instant.

oh well since we're back on the topic, I've carried close to 400 lbs of me and passenger on my 08 and it really doesn't feel a whole different than just me. I guess if you're racing a bike with competitive performance you'd see the disadvantage to carrying that much weight. I still had no problem showing my tail lights to some fast cars while I was carrying a passenger just as quick as if I was carrying half the weight.
