Hurricane Ridge
07/08/15 1:32 PM

Took a little rip up Hurricane Ridge this last Friday. Weather was perfect. Went early so as not to have to deal with traffic. Only had to pass 4 cars on the 12 miles from pay booth to the top.

WooHoo! Great riding weather has returned to the PNW aka Washington State. I work 4-10s M-Th and I get up 3:30am for work so I got my Fridays for fun. Get up at work time and catch the first ferry heading out to the Olympic peninsula. Puts me at the beginning of the run up Hurricane Ridge at about 7:30. God I love my Friday mornings. Still some snow up at the top. 17 miles from sea level to a little over 5200 feet. Grade isn't bad so it is fun to ride both ways. Still a few rocks and some sand in a couple places but not bad for this early in the season. Looking forward to hitting this road as often as I can. Tried out a couple new camera mount locations. Have the road to myself when I am there this early. Passed 1 car and 1 bicycle going up. Parking lot at the top was empty. Video is a little longer than last year cause I didn't edit the first part out.

What do you do when you get to the end of a great run up to the top of a ridge? Move the camera to a different mount and ride back down!

Early is best, week days are best. No fun on weekends when everyone is driving up there with the family.
Anybody local that wants to meet up for a ride let me know, I'm down for any riding.

Looks like a great road and no traffic..Love it.. What camera are you using..?
I like the low mount to see how much movement you get in the front end..

I am using a GoPro Hero3 White edition for my forward facing video and I have a Contour HD video that is mounted at the grab handle location. I have been trying new mounting to see what looks the best and what works. One of my earlier mounts that showed the gages came off of the steering stem. Vibration was to much and caused what is called (jello effect) where the frequency of the vibration goes in and out of sync with the shutter speed causing waves in the video. Still would like to figure out the sound so that you can hear the bike better.

That sure looks like a blast, david. I hope you're back out there today.

Unfortunately as most of us from the PNW know it is green here because it rains here. Just some light showers but it is suppose to be nice all next week. The neighbor wanted to go for a ride today too. He rides a Triumph 1050 Sprint.

Gonna spend the day with mom. Happy mothers day to all the great moms out there.

That is a fun road for sure, I need to meet up with you and ride it together some time.

Maybe a little 112 to Neah bay too - I have every other Friday off...

For sure, Any Friday is a good Friday for a ride. Might be out of town for a couple weeks early June or July for work but I'm in. Hurricane Ridge just doesn't last long enough. Riding the rest of the way out to Neah Bay would make it a nice day ride.

What is your Friday off rotation? This coming or the fallowing. I would like to head up around the mountains down your neck of the woods too some time.

You ride like me David. Smooth sweeping through the turns, no brakes. Just enjoying the road. Nice job!
Maybe you, I , Chrly and a few more can get together sometime.

Weather is lookin good up here in the PNW this weekend. Planning on the first Edmonds/Kingston ferry Friday morning to take a couple laps up Hurricane Ridge. Anyone want to hook up, I will be in Port Angeles around 7AM as the ranger raises the flag at the entrance to 17 miles of fantastic fun. Got a little life left in the Q3s before I switch to some Pirelli for a track weekend the end of the month.

Yep I did it again. Jumped the first ferry out of Edmonds to Kingston on a beautiful Friday morning. Nice ride out to Port Angeles and headed up Hurricane ridge at about 7:15. Road was in great shape with only a couple small rocks in a corner or two. 17 miles up and only one car to pass. Took in the view for a couple minutes then road back down. Fun both ways, so when I got to the bottom and still hadn't seen more than a couple cars go by I turned around and did it again! And yes I am definitely ready for those new tires!

Here is a shot of Mt. Rainer from the boat. If you look closely you can see Seattle and the Space Needle in the foreground. Didn't take any pics up on the ridge. Shot some video that I will probably add to my youtube. I'm sure it looks the same as the one I linked before.
