I have used Firstgear and Tour Master jackets in the past and now using Firstgear for day to day commute. After 10 years of almost daily use, the Firstgear jacket shows some aging spots. I thought about replacing it with another Firstgear but someone told me "Extreme Jacket" available at Leatherup is 1/2 the price yet provides almost the same performance. I want to take a look at the Extreme jacket in person but nobody around here carries them. Anyone in this forum tried Extreme jackets? Quality and durability are what I am looking for. Your feedback is appreciated.

Don't have the "extreme" jacket, but I have the lighter mesh Xelement that went through a pretty bad
accident, and didnt rip at all, they really are very good jackets, at least the model I got, it was
pretty cheap also, one thing, they run a little small, so check what other people say about the sizing

You are right, Carabuser. I should have said "Xelement" instead of extreme. My old eyes don't read what on the screen too well

Well Xelemnt does have a jacket model called "extreme" so you are correct anyways ! haha

I have an Xelement leather jacket that is pretty sturdy and was cheap in price compared to the bigger name brands. My only beef with the jacket is that it's not very long in the back, it doesn't have a back zipper to attach it to riding pants, and it has no internal pockets. But it will hold up in a crash!

In reading a few of the reviews, the difference between the Xelement stuff might be design and leather quality. Basically they're not using "premium" grade leather you might find in more expensive jackets, so it's not going to be as soft or flexible. Two reviews said the jacket must weigh 15 lbs? This seems a bit excessive, if you're into performance that might also be something to consider.

As far as safety, looks like a solid product. I'm not sure if it's a type-o, but one jacket is listed as having level 3 CE armor including the back pad (it's all listed together...so ia ssume it is also L3). This is unusual, most jackets only have CE rated shoulder and elbows and basically foam back pads (and chest if equipped). So that's actually a nice bonus, if it's accurate.

At first glance, it reminded me of Joe Rocket. I wonder if it's a related brand to Joe Rocket.

Vic, you are probably right about the quality of the leather, I don't have an xelement leather jacket,
but most of the leather jackets out there are not going to feel like an Alpinestars or similar jacket,
they will do the job, but not as comfortable ...... My Speed and Strength leather is comparable because it is
a higher end model ...

Xelement is probably good for a warmer weather jacket, don't know about their leather jackets, mine is
mesh ...

I bought a leather jacket from competition accessories, and it was thick leather, and pretty cheap,
but it was stiff as a board and didn't seem like it was going to "break in" anytime soon ...

Have some Daneise leather pants, and they seem pretty soft for new leather, that is not "broken in"
yet ....

Basically the same in street leather jackets. More expensive the jacket usually the better grade of leather used. I remember back when there weren't inexpensive leather jackets like there are today.

My first leather jacket I bought in the late 90s, cost about $700 (then). The leather is so soft and supple. At about that time cheaper leather jackets were just starting to emerge on the scene. I still have it. It's in pretty good condition although some of the seams in the liner have given way (their double-stitched so the inner is holding up..just the first stitch gave way in some places).

Back then you couldn't go just anywhere and buy a leather jacket.
