Yeah good idea on the acorn nuts, Though I think I'd like them black. I was rushing to get it done for our little weekend trip last week, so just slapped it together with whatever bolts I could get my hands on.
I planned on shaping those washers so they blend in better then PCing the whole mess.

I agree modification and project are always a lot of fun. They always have a R&D period (testing and trial). Then you can make it pretty once you have it all worked out. I like the Power Coat idea, nice durable finish.

Did a similar thing except I had a welder modify the rack with welded on front mounts and custom standoffs. I like it so much that I leave the stupid bag on there even though it screw up the look of the bike.

9 years later the rack is still solid. I regularly pick the rear up with it, or not quite pick it up, but enough to drag the rear a wee bit as needed.
