If I were only younger. Just can't see pouring that kind of money into an old car. Running Porsches for less than that engine build, and around that year. All the garage shuffling, gathering all the parts, I'm just asking for a headache. Think I'll pass.

I've got his bike all up and running and you want to ride a relic; this would be the same feeling if I got the car on the road. Has that look and feel of my old man's old 60 Porsche I use to drive.

Thanks for the conformation, yannih.

All good Hub.
IMO your decision is 100% correct because unless your heart is completely in it, it's not the way to go.
Although you would end up with an amazing end result, it will take plenty of time, patience, challenge and money...

And one more crazy thing.
Don't know what it's like over your side of the world, but in NZ my 997.1 is now worth $15K-$20K more than what I paid for it around 2 years ago.

Prestige car values have gone through the roof.
Crazy stuff!

I thought Covid would destroy the value of my car but it's been exactly the opposite.
I guess people here have put all their unusable travel dollars into luxury items.

Great if you have one.
Not so good if you are in the market.

Perhaps missed a small trick there Hub but hindsite is a beautiful thing?

Not yet! I finished scanning all the documents and had still been just starting to work on pics and videos and compiling all the info, when today another GT owner told me how he put his up for consignment and did very well, and it sold within a month. So now I'm considering selling it via that method. Not sure. Don't wanna make the wrong move, but there's no way to know what the best move is

Yeah, prices of collector cars shot up over the past 2+ years ... But the past 2-3 months it def looks like they're coolin' off.

Well, if you don't laugh you cry!

For the last 3 months I have been driving with blown door woofers in the 997 so it was time to upgrade the door woofer speakers and the mid ranges as well while I was in there.
Did a crap load of research for what was involved and and which speakers the lads were using.
So bought the speakers, more door panel clips incase the originals broke (which most did) and got started.

Ready to go.

Fiddly and a pain but overall fairly straight forward.

Door panels removed.

Yeah, probably done!

Replaced and happy days.

So here's where I had my embarrassing brain fade.

Wired up all new speakers and temporarily fitted door panels and tested.
Sounded terrible!
Static and distortion through the replaced speakers.
But not just on the new speakers.
On the original non replaced speakers as well (car has 9 speakers).
I couldn't understand what had happened.
The chances the purchased speakers were faulty were extremely slim.
Plus all reviews had advised the sound improvement was amazing.
Had I blown the amp somehow?
Had I shorted something?
So I undid and uninstalled absolutely everything, checked it over and over and reinstalled.
Same result with test after test.

Went to bed extremely disappointed and confused.
People way smarter than me had said this was a really great upgrade.
And it's not nice when your car is in pieces and don't know how to resolve the issue or the way forward.

Woke up today and made some phone calls.
No one had any real ideas or could help.
Wrote on the Rennlist Porsche forum. So many helpful people there just like here but no concrete answers.
Went back downstairs to the garage to see if I could find any sort of answer.
Tested the speakers again and they were even worse!
I mean what the fuck was going on?
This was ridiculous.
How could they be worse?
And then it dawned on me.

Are you ready for this?

I had tested the speakers via the radio in the garage with the doors closed.
The signal was weak and unclear so the sound was like an untuned radio station.
It was also why all speakers had sounded terrible and not just the new ones.
I then tested on my Spotify music and bingo!
Perfect upgraded sound!
Relief but extreme self verbal abuse!!!

I still can't believe I worked myself up over such a stupid error.

Ah well, although it's mega embarrassing, I'm happy its all good now.

All done...

Bugger!!!

What ever is best for you extra but damn that seems like a loss to me.
Would have loved the opportunity to look at buying that puppy from you but regardless doubt I would have been able to afford it.

Whats all the spare cash going to go towards?
2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS???

Yeah, I'm prob gonna regret it long-term, cuz I just don't see values dropping, and if anything they'll prob keep going up, up, UP, but I gotta say ... Shipper just picked it up today, and for me, with my nitpicky, protective personality, it's actually a load off! I can once again park my truck in the garage! And I no longer have to have any concern about the possibility of this perfect, valuable GT getting scratched, dinged, or even just dirty, or wondering when something on it will quit working and then I'll have to haul it 1,000 miles / 2 full days each way to/from Detroit to the GT expert to fix it ... cuz I wouldn't trust anyone else to touch it, and that includes me! And I'm pretty capable!

Would have loved the opportunity to look at buying that puppy from you but regardless doubt I would have been able to afford it.

Had no idea you might be interested(!) or we could surely have discussed. I might have "needed" to accompany it on its voyage from FL to NZ!

Dunno yet ... can't find anything so far, not even a bike ... nothing suits me nearly like the big ZX! And Porsches have never really interested me much, not sure why Enjoy looking at 'em for sure, but the thought of ownership has never struck me ... yet!

Yamaha MT-10?? Both my buds now have 'em! And on the Parkway a few weeks ago I switched with one of them and rode the 2020 ... on curvy mountain roads rather than straight flat Florida ... and I was surprised at how much I liked it! Nimble! Light! Flick-able! Of course they're kinda ugly(!), there's no wind protection (unless you add a taller screen & then they're even more ugly!), tiny fuel tank and would cost a bunch to "upgrade"(??), soooo ... meh, I dunno. The big ol' ZX is still top o' the heap, I think, for now.

This customized MT looks pretty trick, tho:

I hear that, extra, I mean being a caretaker of something already valuable or is going to be valuable. Years of sitting, the drop and ding, a rat's nest you didn't catch. The chewed up wires, all those variables, is more like going to a job you hate. Now off to the new caretaker, made a little or broke even, no matter, nerves are calmed, the obligation of pristine keeping is over.

Cash waiting for the next ass wrinkle of fun, but what is out there that moves the whim? A porsche, a vette, a gas bike, an E-bike? Fucking 14 spoiled me. Even a duc's 230+hp is still a few torque points down on the scale, let alone how it's such a high turnover of low hour parts, plus 'making mechanics since 1954' is the joke.

With the 14's bike problem, it's looking for a tank bag that fits.

Yammih - Re tires ... Yeah, car stuff adds up a LOT faster than bike stuff!

Hub - Yeah, a flawless near-zero-mile 18 year old collector car you're not willing to start driving regularly and have no desire to own a museum piece ... well, she's better off under someone else's care.

What else is out there ... the new Vette is kinda interesting, maybe ... would have to be the Z06 ... but even then, meh, it's just not that good lookn, to my eyes. Plus it's GM quality; I've kept up very closely with how they're panning out. Some are great, but some have some issues, some very serious ... DCT transmission, ouch.

Dunno where the $ will go, sitting in a bank for now ... still lookin' tho, and that's part of the fun!

The new Corvette is amazing looking, in my opinion! and Corvettes have always been the best bang for the buck in the performance department.

yannih, if all you need is new rubber, no need for a 2023 vette to roll around in while you wait for the Porche to come back from the shop. Like you said though, life's short...

I recently saw an '02-'05 T-bird in black. Maybe not up to the performance standards of a porche but almost as CLASS-Y!
