'06 Exhaust on '13
08/22/15 11:39 AM

I'm thinking of mounting the entire Gen 1 system to my bike. This is the only way I can think of keeping it OEM quiet, losing the cats and ugly stock pipes. Will this work and will it add any power down low at the expense of top-end?

Stock gen 1 exhaust headers do not fit on 2012+ models. It doesn't clear the bottom of the motor. Some aftermarket headers fit all models. There are a few older posts that might give you more clarity on what does fit.

After searching, Privateers pipes fit. Have you ever tried it?

musclemerc, is that the right link?
I don't see anything about a gen 1 header not fitting a gen 2 motor.

Auron, how bout a link to Privateers post.

After I removed the fairing parts, I wanted to swap out a first gen header onto the gen2 head. It either drops right into the ports like the gen2 does [that came with the bike] or the gen1 OE should too. No can do or I'd have them running before I ever lit off the bike and threw a mile on it.

Signed,

NOLTT or I lost my touch being a parts changer.

Aftermarkets may not but maybe the OEM does?

Privateer-
"ROFL you guys are staring at photos so long you start seeing things.

Original topic. Yes, the header that fits my 2008 will bolt right up to a 2012 and have clearance all the way down and under. The engine changed, but not that much.

And my CT-DUALS are big enough diameter to satisfy Brock on the flow issue."

I understand this is the internet but I rarely come across so much concrete misinformation. Those that say it won't fit SAY IT WON"T FIT, but apparently it does I don't get it, I don't even think Privateer had a 14R, just a 14 and a concours.

Not only does it fit but it works Extremely well. See pics

Went to the Dyno after install to test two 14Rs on the same day with the same flash same fuel maps. Only difference was pipe. The Akra was the clear winner. The Mid Range land slide in the Akrapovics Favor.

My Akropovic headers fitted both my 2008 and 2013 models as well.

Auron wants to put a complete gen 1 std system on his 2013. When I put my 2008 std headers on my 2013 (I had to get a leak welded on the Akropovic) I found that the port holes lined up but the headers were up against the motor at the bottom, right where they bend. In my mind having the exhaust push up against any part of the motor is not a good fit. Thus my saying it doesn't fit.
The euro spec 2013 is a little different but as far as motors and headers go I don't think there is any difference except maybe the O2 sensor.

^ See that's all I wanted to hear, from someone that's actually tired it. Guess I'll just take a grinder to the engine cases and make it fit :P

I'm pretty sure if Ivan or Romans would have had to take a grinder to the engine case when they installed Akras we'd have heard about it. I'm also pretty sure Smokin was running a 1st gen Brocks pipe until the gen 2 versions came out.

How hard is it to set one pipe end into the port opening, drop the other 3 into the ports, right? So from left no joy to starting at the right no joy and now straight into is still no joy and if you think I am going to stress who from where, this is why I could say that my 06 or 08 header would not fit. Sold my 08 that had the bung in it so that was my first choice. Tried the 06 with no joy... Go figure.
