Do this: Take a long hose you can push on the back of the fittings on the back of the tank. You are going to open the gas cap, blow in the each nipple fitting, you with the ear at the cap. You are going to be transferring that hose 3 times for clogged lines. That is one test.

Fast test is to see if that rubber nipple receiver is collapsed over as you send that nipple that is protruding out at the back right side, you sitting on the bike, looking over the top of the gas cap, say at 5 o'clock. Open the cap, see that rubber lodged in that ring? Looks good? Next:

Make sure you put a hose on that gas cap nipple. Lightly suck, see if that diaphragm is clogged? You might get a mouth full of gas vapor. Nice! Anyway, push on the hose, listen for a clean air passage. So, one is diaphragm flapping on the light suck, free air out is that clean cap and now I am clueless till you, "Coug" the tank.

Now, even though that was more basic vapor lock I just spewed out, yours sounds more like the vent tube broke loose from the inside, dropped down into the gas, and just had that much of a push in the pressure inside the tank to keep the gas pouring out, if you say "1 Gallon" kept on flowing? I have two tanks with the 3 and 2 vent systems.

Before I ruined the tank banging out a dent, I was cautious to not collapse or dislodge the vent lines hugging the top of the tank, or I was screwed chasing gallons on the floor like the float gasket was leaking the other night!

We paint the tank just recently?

Sounds like yer overflow's workin just fine.Doing what it's supposed to do when the fuel level rises too far(Filled tank....maybe TOO MUCH there).Rode bike short distance, engine heated up(natch).Parked bike with heated engine.Gas expanded from engine heat...created an overfilled condition....tank overflow line worked as it's designed to do...save yer tank from damage I did this...that's what mine was.Now I fill ALL THE WAY UP(as always),but I RIDE for a while before stopping-and I park in the shade somewhere!(if at all!!!)
