Low dyno numbers
05/02/18 6:05 PM

2012 ZX-14R - Brock's Alien Head 2 - Nel's 2wheeldynoworks ECU flash - everything else stock, including gearing.
Had my bike dynoed yesterday at Honda on a dynojet. I didn't get a torque reading. I told the mechanic I was just curious about rwhp. He told me that was fine and said he wouldn't charge me anything. He did 4 pulls. The best was 186.8. He thought that was pretty good. He showed me on his computer where he did some BMW1000's last year. They varied from 161 to 181 rwhp. The Scooter Shack, which is less than 1 mile away, has a Dynojet, too. Shawn, (the mechanic) asked me if I'd be willing to take my bike over there and let them dyno it (again, no cost). He wanted to do the same bike on the same day at about the same time with the same weather. I said sure. They did 2 pulls, the best was 187.1, which told them they're Dynojets were within range of each other. Of course, I was pretty disappointed. I see on a lot of forums where most 2012+ 14's are over 200 rwhp. Anyone ever hear of these bikes reading that low? Or do I have 1 of a kind. Altitude here is 1,600 feet. (I did race a 2015 Hayabusa a couple of years ago, from a 65 mph rollon up to about 180, and beat him very, very, badly). The bike runs strong. I was just so disappointed in the rwhp.

What kind of day weather wise? Humidity etc can make a differance as can the correction number factored in by the operator. Not sure how it is arrived at, just know it affects readings.

Temperature was 43 degrees outside. Humidity was about 48%. Makes me wonder if some dyno operators shoot air into the ram air intake. That might make a difference.

Did Nels flash the ECU or is it the CBLAST job?

Those number are like KHI stock new bike performance

It was when CBlast first came on here and he just started working for Nels. I always figured it was Nels that flashed it and not CBlast. The bike runs great and it's super smooth. Doesn't miss a beat. I used to have an 06 14 that I bought new. I ran 9.2 at 148 in the 1/4 and 5.8 at 125.8 in the 1/8 with the 06. I've never had my 2012 at the strip. My nephew has an 06 just like the one I used to have, same setup. I can smoke him with my 2012.
Maybe dyno numbers don't matter and I should be happy with what I have. I guess the real world matters and not just dyno numbers.

CBLAST Fucked you and probably didnt do shit

Another member had the same issues. If the torque is same as stock he just took your $$$$$. Nels says he will correct the ripoff for a small fee, or that what he said

What Crude said. Call Nels. He will redo your flash and make it better. Apparently CBlast ripped Nels off and did a bunch of flashes that didn't have all the latest or best updates. Nels found out and on his own posted here that he will take care of any former CBlast customers.

Cblast did my 2008 also and other than the flies doing a quick open I do not know what was done. The fuel map that was loaded had a lot to be desired so I put the PC-5 back on so it would run better. I fergetted the other persons name on here that was doing them but I have tried without success to get hold of him. I have no idea who is reputable anymore and back then the 2006 thru 2011 owners did not have much to choose from.
It is only money that maybe was not well spent and the bike is still starting so all is not bad.

So, I just e-mailed Nels and in less than a minute I got a phone call from him. Exact words "Sebastian didn't do a damn thing to your ECU". You were right cruderudy. He said my dyno numbers are stock numbers and he guarantees after he flashes my ECU, timing, air fuel mixture, etc, I'll be amazed at the difference in power and it'll pull over 200 on the dyno. Well, I'm taking the ECU out right now and sending it to 2Wheeldynoworks. I hope he's right.

Good for you!

The other guy with a good rep is Don Guhl on the right coast - not sure where but just look up Guhl tuning or some such thing

That was probably Romans. I just got done saying we need that guy back here permanent.

I think if Romans were here he'd tell you to go with Nels, Guhl, Ivan....anyone with a solid reputation. The truth is that there is not much difference between what one good tuner does compared to the next. They all know the formula. Some do little tweeks like unifying fuel mapping / cylinder. Some may be more or less agressie with timing...maybe some tune/gear and others unify gear mapping....they are all doing the same thing but one guy migh be a little more edgy than the next...not by much. That's one thing I really liked about Romans. He didn't try to mystify anyone. Straight shit from him and that's all.

I have a Cblast flash.I'm around 1,400-1,500 ft elevation.I think mine dynoed at 186.That's with Brock's exhaust(no cats).It was disappointing for me.But I figured it was the altitude.Guess not.

My Cblast flash was 3 years ago per the PM's to him. I do not know who Nels is or an email for him but sounds like he got wienered. I never knew why Cblast disappeared but if this is the case then I understand.

Romans is who I could not think of but wish he was still around.

Before the Cblast flash my 2008 had a stock header with the left side tube capped off and a single right side slip on, Ivan's cheaper TRE, adjustable timing plate set at +2 and a tuned PC5 with a dyno tune that nettted 181.

After Cblast did the flash he told me to pull all the add ons which I did and it pooched out. The flies felt like an old 4 bbl carb when they opened which it did not do before but still a pooch. I put the PC5 back on and a full Leo Vince carbon can exhaust and it helped. I was not retired back then and left the silencer in so I could go to work at 4:30 am and not piss off neighbors and attract the police. I recently pulled the silencer and was surprised at the difference but then it could also mean that I am getting old and scared of the bike.

You ain't the only 1 Mokaw. I had to send in my 06 ecu to be redone and it was a vast difference...much smoother and a little richer. When I got my 16 the ecu went straight to Nels.

The Nel's people called me after I sent an email and for $290 they will fix the Cblast flash. They said I was the 5th person with a Cblast problem recently so I guess it is getting to expensive to fix something what an X=employee did. It was not Nel that called but the gentlemen made it clear the freebies were done. He also said that the re-flash for the old bikes like mine (2008) has more to offer than the old version Cblast would have used. I am not complaining since it sounds like Cblast put the wiener to us that used him and his employer but it is going to be irritating if someone behind me gets a freebie.

I emailed Nels a few yrs ago when this started. I drank the coolaid and so I dont know what I have.
I did track days before and after the CBLAST BS flash and it seems different to me. Bike has always run great. Nels told me at least 2 yrs ago $250 for the reflash which I thought was really BS too .

If I ever get it checked or flashed again its going to Don Guhl

I took my ECU out last night and shipped it today. I'm paying the $290 just to get it right.
I was also told they don't need to know your altitude because the bike has a sensor that adjusts the fuel air mixture accordingly. He said with my full Brock's exhaust, (and the CBlast flash, or should I say non-flash) my bike is more than likely running VERY lean on top.
Grn14, they did a bunch of dynotuning on H2's and with a pipe they're getting 240 to 260 horsepower. I just wish his shop was closer so he could do my 14.

Don't forget Victhing's video tests. He compared acceleration with stock ECU to flashed. Was it a C-blast flash? I can't find the thread but that might explain the results. No faster with flash than without. Not timed with high tech equipment but the time in the video shows there was no improvement to be detected by a handheld stopwatch in any of the 5 or so back to back runs Vic did.

Rook, pretty sure the whole Vic thing pissing contest on no increase in accel was a CBLAST FU. Thats why I think my ECU did end up actually getting the Nels flash because it was much different in power after and Vic was no-change.

It seems pretty likely. I can see if he was comparing one flash to another there would be no difference but a good flash to stock....there would have to be some difference. Timing and flies derestricted and improved fueling, you should be able to feel the improvement easily.

I've been to Nels shop many times. Even met Sebastian back when Nels was in his old shop. At that time I think Sebastian had one of Nels computers and was doing some of his own stuff. I ordered a set of Yoshi slips and a Cblast flash, and brought my ECU with me when I picked up the slips. Nels flashed my ECU while I was there so pretty sure it was the good flash and performance improvement was very noticeable. My flash also came with a free dyno that I didn't use right away. After all the Cblast/Sebastian issues came to light I had been talking to Nels and decided to have him run the dyno on my bike at his new shop to see how it was doing and if he saw anything he felt he could improve. On the dyno he was able to improve his original flash/tune by 7hp and 7ftlb torque. I have always liked this awesome bike and how it performs and Nels with his tuning abilities make this bike even better. When he was doing the dyno we talked about what else there was and he sold me on the full Hindle exhaust and doing the pair block off with re=dyno and tune for the pipe and block off. Going to the full exhaust and pair block off and tune got me another 8hp and 2ftlb more torque. My dyno sheets are in the Performance Upgrades tab in ECU Flash 2 Wheel Dynoworks. The Gen1 is getting around 185hp. The newer Gen2s with 50cc more displacement are getting 200+ with full exhaust and tune.
Nels has also tuned 192hp on my 2012 ZX10R.

Rook, now that you mention it, I remember the testing that Victhing did with the CBlast flash and with the stock ECU. There was no difference. He posted it on here and Sebastian (CBlast ) and him had a few go rounds on some threads. I think Hub even called him out on his flash. I remember on Victhings posts at the bottom it said "CBlast Flash - Not recommended." It was right after he started getting called out on his flash that he disappeared from this site and hasn't been heard from since.
Anyone know whatever happened to Vic? It's been a long time since he's been on here.
Grn14, your H2 must really be a beast.

I posted a where's Vic thread about a year or two ago. He's still out there, just not all hyped up on bikes anymore.
