imrubicon,
Bolt head and nut are recessed. You need deep socket or socket extension or both. (one each side.) I didn't have to trim my bolt but sounds like you need to. Can't say they are real organized at Stuntworx. Rubber pad spacers? Between flat bar section and body.

I also have a little tube spacer that I dont know where it goes .
Rubber pads dont match up very well as in might not use them as the bars will go with the bike someday.
Not worried but the bolt (ready thread with nut welded on end) is a tad smaller then the one we are replacing ?
I think that point needs pinched more than anything else but just asking opinions.

silvrevo
You were right the bars look better in person as they dont stick out as much in person as in pictures.

I did a lot of quandering when I first looked over the mounting. The long thru bolt is replacing a motormount! It is smaller and doesn't fill the hole like the original. I took mine off after a few hundred miles to remove the fairings. I took the original thru bolt and slid it back into position. That means there was no misalignment happening with the smaller bolt in place. This is probably due to the fact that the lower motormount, right below it, continues to maintain the alignment. All that is required of the upper bolt is sufficient tension to hold the frame/motor sandwich together. They tolde me that the bolt provided is a high strength bolt. Original specs don't call for all that much torque on the thru bolt. I torqued it a little tighter because it is using tension to hold the assembly rather than filling the hole so that shear strength is mostly required to hold the assembly. Hopefully the remaining stock, lower, thrubolt is strong enough to withstand the shear forces involved. I was confident enough that it would that I went ahead and mounted the Rail.

The rubber spacers are for the flat metal to frame contact.

But I also have a little metal molybedammed silver spacer that doesnt go anywhere ?
Also will be looking for caps for the end of the pass through as I would rather have the holes covered.
I have the Green 2009 ZX so if I ever get my lazy butt to posting pictures ,they should show up well as I got the black ones

Ok lookin for a decent set of sliders.I looked at so many. Anyone reccommend a specific kind? Prefably ones that you only need to replace the ends in case of a tip over.

When I bought my bike, the dealer had already installed frame sliders and didn't think much about it at the time but now I'm really glad they were there. I had a drop at a very low speed in a parking lot (trying to do that damned MSF figure 8 in a box) and, except for an extremely small scratch on my mirror, both me and my bike suffered 0 damage and the only reason this is so is because of the sliders. Without them, there is no doubt that my fairings would have been scratched up all to hell and my leg might have got also gotten caught. I can't speak to what might have happened at a higher speed and whether there would have been frame damage and so forth but they definitely saved my ass at low speed...

Well, I have read all about the pros and cons of sliders/crash bobbins, and have bought a set of PUIG ones. If I had had them on, I would not be having my fairings repainted and be replacing my l/h mirror. As someone said, in case of a real crash, not a 0 mph dropover, you would want the bike to be totalled. So, I hope I live to tell the tale should my bike ever come into contact with the ground again. BTW, I have been riding for 37 years and this is my third time of damage to a bike, none of them serious. The bolts do look a bit iffy and I am sure they will break in case of an accident, but, nothing ventured, nothing found out. Sort of being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, isn't it? I personally do not like the look of them, but if only I had them on Sunday morning!

I wouldn't put them on a zx14 the mounting point pretty much tells the story. Many other bikes don't have this issue so yes I would put sliders on those bikes for sure. LSL makes an nice alternative for some models I put a set on my CBR thet are very short and come with quality hardware.

TXSPIKE, what kind do you have? You got a pic? Are they the rails like imrubicon has or the bobbins? WILLIDX4, if you drop your bike, aren't the fairings gonna get hammered? Not a high speed drop, but a stupid one like I did.

It seems like people have mixed opinions on frame sliders but I haven't seen much negative on frame "rails" I guess you call them. The appear to protect the bike without the frame issues and appear to significantly protect your leg in a low side crash. Other than looks wise and some potential frame issues, the rails seem to be a good idea it seems. Sound right?

Well if you ask me they are a good idea for low speed crashes but the high speed crashes you would be looking at a lot more damage then what a frame slider can save. What I've been told is that the people who buy the long frame sliders they cause more damage then they save. The ones I have are GSG's and these are the sliders they use at the track.

After seeing a friend dump his bike and bust his leg on a 25mph turn (been in therapy since last riding season and still cant walk right) I decided Frame sliders might be a good idea for those just in case situations to assist in protecting the bike and maybe my legs.

With all the concerns over a single mounting bolt frame slider in this thread I was considering the Race Railz because I just couldnt find a multi point mounting slider for the 14. Until I came across the LSL frame sliders for the 14 - it has 2 mounting points and the slider sits on a pad between the two mounting points. I really dont even notice them but hopefully any concerns over engine damage people have posted are not a worry for me. I hope never to find out one way or the other but you just never know.

LSL also claims that their sliders help guide the bike in one direction by their design and the ends are replaceable like most sliders - I recomend them to anyone looking for sliders and has or had the same concerns as I did about the single mount sliders.

hoopie: Sliders can save you a ton of money in a accidental fall over. If its a crash it wont matter and you will want to total the bike anyways.

That is my thinking as well, so I made a set of sliders. Going at ~ 10 MPH, I dropped my bike on some gravel. The sliders saved the bike from any significant damage; only the bottom cowling got a little scratched. I made the sliders longer than most of the aftermarket ones I've seen and their longer length worked perfectly to minimize the damage. Of course I realize that in a higher speed crash the sliders' longer length is a disadvantage that may more easily break the casting they are fastened to.

All,

Pertaining to the Race Railz.... be sure NOT to loosen the rear spacers that the long threaded bolt goes through. It has a certain torque specification.

I would love to find a slider that attaches much lower than the front engine mount. For a simple fall-over, they are invaluable.

On my Yamaha FJR, I use the Motovation no-cut sliders... there's a billet aluminum piece that bolts to the frame. The slider bolts to that. I'm now recovering from a 1-2mph crash at a railroad crossing. It was raining heavily & the bike just went over VERY quickly. The Motovation slider saved the bike from major damage. Only the rear brake pedal was trashed (along with the slider).

I had the Race Railz on for a while, but elected to try the Shogun sliders. I recently took them off, too.

Here's some pics.
