BEWARE Clear Alternatives / Moto Lume
12/04/13 3:32 AM

DO NOT buy Clear Alternatives lights and lenses for your ride, PLEASE read on.
I visited their website, now trading as Moto Lume in San Diego, several months ago with the aim of placing an order. After going through the process of filling in my details to enable a shipping quote, the lights I wanted showed that they would be on back order. I immediately backed out, and did not complete my order. I decided to buy from another source, 58Cycle in the U.S. who had them in stock. The next day I got an email from Moto Lume thanking me for my order. I immediately replied telling them to cancel the order, as I had not completed it. Cutting a long story short, 2 months and 5 emails later my Visa was debited for the amount of the lights plus shipping. Again I emailed them with no reply. I later got an email with "Fed-Ex shipping details". I emailed again, furious, with no reply. Tracking of the "so called" order has not moved in a month and a half. All of my emails have gone unanswered, and in desperation I started ringing all of their phone numbers from Australia, regardless of my cost. The numbers are all apparently disconnected. They have taken my money ($105.00AU) and have given me nothing.
To add insult to my injury..... the same brand tail light bought from 58Cycle is faulty, with several banks of LED's not working from new. Apparently I have to take that issue up with the manufacturer???? You've got to be shitting me????
In 58Cycle's defense, they told me that Moto Lume is "possibly selling up" and are "not operational at the moment". They have offered to sell me another one at half price, plus another $35.00 shipping again. That's $116.00 AU for the faulty one, another $84.00 AU for a replacement, and the $105.00 AU that Moto Lume stole from me. Total = $305.00 AU for a fu@&!^g tail light.
To say that I have been violated and have never felt so ripped off in all my years of riding, would be an understatement. If I lived in San Diego, shit would be hitting the fan.
Moto Lume's ethics are nothing short of criminal, Clear Alternatives lights are rubbish, and their warranty is completely worthless.
If you are considering buying their products either directly, or from another source....... BEWARE!!!
I only hope that this post reaches and saves just one person from the violation I've received.
Now the point of my email..... Does anyone know how to fix faulty LED's???

Sorry to hear this, Sweet. Thanx for the heads-up.

According to the shop manual there is no procedure for repairing the tail light. But that doesn't mean it can't be done.

Personally, I'd use Bean's source and buy another new one for $10.

hey man can you post a pic of the faulty tail light. I had one side of the tail light go out on me so i bought another one. it was the intergrated one. Apparently one of the wires for the signal light became disconneted and the right side of the tail light wouldn't work. reconnected wire and its all good. Also be careful when installing. The top corners chip and crack easily. I've seen so many break there.

Thanks for the support and advice guys. This pic shows the banks of LED's not working.
Does anyone know if the lens can be removed, so I can at least get inside to look for dry solder joints etc?

" my Visa was debited for the amount of the lights plus shipping."

Hey Sweetfa65,

Have you pursued this with your Visa company? They may be able to cxl, reimburse your account, etc. My Visa (Chase) did as much for a fraudulent charge that I reported to them.

I believe someone lost their retailer status on that one, if I recall correctly.

Just an avenue to consider.

Good luck.

My clear rears (Clear Alternatives) were ordered by a friend who helped me install them. A cool cat. I had a burn out in three weeks and the 90 dollar rears went into the trash... lost 90 bucks... Sorry to hear it brotha.

I ordered a custom LED double the cost but well worth the investment.

bummmmmmmmmer my bro, take Paul's advice...approach VISA

Paul I've got to send you an email. Sorry week from hell!

That moto lumé company is a one-man operation run by some kid likely out of his mom's basement. There is a suite number listed for the company but that's most likely just a postal drop box.

Do a search for Matthew Likovich, aka "Mattie" on facebook and see if you can speak with him in this manner. He is listed as the business owner.

yep I did that once. Was sold a steering damper that was purple when I ordered blue. My Visa reimbursed my account BUT if I recall, they called it a "temporary reimbursement" while Visa contacted the seller that I had the problem with. I think I was still ultimately liable for the $$$ Long/short, PayPal also got in on it. The seller contacted me and we straightened it all out.

I believe someone lost their retailer status on that one, if I recall correctly.
That is the ONLY thing that makes me feel safe about buying on ebay. Sellers don't want to loose business by having a laps in their ebay exposure. If it is a private party selling rather than a business, I doubt there is much reason to worry about losing seller status. Some people don't plan on selling anything else any time soon. Probably very easy to get seller status again if they use a different computer and email.

No Wolf.... it's not all rubbish. I have all the lenses on my ride, and did on my 07 too. That's why I went the matching tail this time, instead of tinting my OEM one like my 07. From everything I've seen, it's their LED's, electronics and customer service that is not worth the steam off my piss on a cold day. It seems their care factor and quality control has gone to the dogs.
