Life without the 14;ode to a dead horse
11/02/11 5:29 AM

Since August I have been without my beloved monster. I don't think I really understood what I had lost until now. The Harley I replaced it with just doesn't cut it and I have had way to many thoughts about selling it, which is really rare for me. I've sunk $800 in an exhaust and another $400 into a cotton-pickin' backrest for the wife plus about $1500 into various other "goodies" to make it my own and I'm still waiting to feel something for the bike. Granted, it's great for when the wife wants to ride on back and play "Sons of Anarchy" for the day, but I feel more like a taxi driver than someone who is excited to be on his bike. Ironically, it is extremely uncomfortable sitting straight up trying to relax my shoulders the whole time. I can easily go several days with out riding and not regret which is super scary. I don't think I will ever sell the Harley, unless I get an offer I can't refuse (which won't happen). But I sure need to pay it off so I can get another sport bike soon.

I know, I know you're probably thinkin, ' what a whiner', but

I REALLY MISS MY PARTNER IN CRIME! cheers to my ole friend where ever you are !

Hey Edge good to hear from u....What u are going thru is my biggest fear if & when I have to slow things down from the 14. I think the only bike I would consider at that point would be the new BEEMer 1600 GTL or a Gold Wing. For now the 14 is all I want at age 43. If I was in ur shoes, I would find a way to sell the Harley and get a new 14R; happiness & thrill IMO is everything ur supposed to feel from a bike. I know there's two sides to whats comfortable but that upright position, with no pressure relief from legs and arms would kill my lower back.........

I bet that bike is a smooth runner. Fuel injected and all. Nice low end torque all day can the lady feel that back pillow, you be cabbing for a few lattes. The partner can wait. Right now, everyone is eating the full list parade and wave I got the first one, ha-ha!

We wait for the subtle improvements saying things like, "We knew the comp pee, yes that brand was coming out to get us.' 'But here is our answer to thatshit."

I found our next bike, BOOBS, with the wife on the back, he is sitting straight up and oops, I was too hard on the brakes. Hope the dents come out of my back.

They closedown the EPA.

Heh. If my Harley deal hadn't fallen apart, I don't think I would have regretted the purchase. The only reason I'm getting a C14 now is because its the most bike for the bucks for the kind of riding I want to do, and the seating position is more than adequate to be kind to my old war injuries.

Which will leave a lot of spare money for farkles.

I'm a little surprised Edge found himself missing the performance handling, but I understand. I'm probably more unconcerned with it than he is.

I'd give him quite a discount on my ZX14 and he could sport tour big time with that while retaining the performance handling, and mine will easily run with the new ones. But he's got to ask. LOL.

So the question is, what is Edgecrusher going to be riding come Spring 2012?

Someone is going to be riding my ZX14, which will easily run with stock 2012 ZX14s, and is set up for high performance sport touring.

Or they can take the luggage off and just bomb around in the mountains.

I.m still just scratching the surface of it's abilities.

I cannot even fathom going to something different...no way. That 14 WILL get in yer blood. It does have the ability to pretty much ruin any other Brand. There's NOTHING like cruising at 80,only to downshift without drama and power on out at triple digits with NO sweat...and STAY there if ya want.NOTHING rides like my Ninja.NOTHING.Remember Edge...you don't HAVE to do anything.Nothing wrong with yer Harley.Give it a chance maybe...see how ya feel in 3 months or so.You CAN 'get into it' mentally....just a lot of stuff happened to ya in the recent past.Give yerself time to get things settled down some more. You MAY find out ya really don't WANT a bigazz, pretty much limited kind of bike like the 14.That's cool....it's YOUR ride...not anyone elses.Harley's are cool....just not what I would want. It's the ride my bro...the ride.Whatever that ride is.

i solved that dilemma, i have a road king classic and a zx14.... and a klx400r... no more till i finish building my house. really, i like the rk, it has its niche, stylin and profilin downtown is cool. big saddlebags are too. it really does look nice with all the chrome, but it sure runs out of breath quick. i just got the 14 but i bet it goes faster in first than the rk does in fifth. i feel your pain.
