So, even though I know that I have a slow leak in the front tire of the DR, I decided to do the right thing and throw caution to the wind and ride 20 miles away to Whitmore for coffee and a muffin. I aired up the tire and with a mighty "HI HO SILLLVERRRR!" I headed out. Bike continues to run great which, I guess, means I haven't completely forgotten how to fix motorcycles... Yet.
This route is all paved so I could wick up the pace a little. Keeping in mind the absolutely horrible tires I'm rolling on.
A couple miles in I passed 4 sprotbiles coming the other way. We waved to each other. Made it to Whitmore and sat on the porch enjoying coffee and muffin in the shade. Breakfast done I suited up and headed back. When I got to the creek, the 4 guys I passed coming out were there chatting. I stopped and talked to them a little bit. Lead rider was on a R1 and showing his friends the roads. Bikes were R1, Honda CBR929 ( don't see many of them anymore), Gixxer 600 and a new Ninja 400. Due to to shirts on 2 out of 4 riders I wasn't going to be too impressed with their riding.
I hung around and pulled out with them. Immediately, their "Leader" cleared off into the distance leaving me to observe various levels of multiple apexes, brake lights in the turns followed by full throttle on the straights.
I decided to pass the 3 of them and set out after the leader. I caught up with him and I guess he noticed because he upped his pace. He tried to leave me behind. He failed. I guess he didn't know that, on tight bumpy roads, a dual sport absolutely rules. Even on crappy, leaky 20 year old tires. Eventually I passed him and continued on my way.
Overall it was a fun morning. I'm going to do it again.
