Purolator oil filters
05/22/14 5:26 AM

I've read that the Purolator # PL14610 and PL14612 are both excellent choices as filters on the ZX14. Can anyone recommend them or say "why not"?

I have been running the 14610 and I am very impressed so far. Made in the USA too!

Always heard good things about then just never used one on my bike... I stick with OEM and since I have a case of them I'm good for awhile..

I've been using the PL14610 since 600 miles on the clock. Today the odo reads 23750. This filter boasts the greatest surface area, synthetic fiber filter media for more uniform pores, a synthetic anti drain back valve for superior sealing, and an 18psi differential steel relief valve.

The surface area is what attracted my attention. The rest is gravy.

Current odo reading is 33K and change.

No change in primary drive/transmission harmonics, top end, and bottom end accoustics.

I wish I had the time to put those kind of miles on a bike. I've put 7514 miles on mine in a year and 4 months.

Don't feel too bad: I'm getting crushed this year with rainfall.

I should be up around 37 - 39K by now. The girl had 32K when I parked her in November.

I cut open the stock Kawasaki oil filter, very well made filter, i will be sticking with those.

There are around 8 or so different brands of filters that will fit the 14r.

I believe amsoil makes one too.

Not a damned thing wrong with the KHI spec'd element.

All things considered, "which I strive to acheive", I'd run nothing but the OEM part. Unfortunately, the markup is criminal and if I want one "on the fly" that means I have to get to a dealer before 5pm. AutoZone and Advanced are open till 9.

How is the K & N filter KN-303 I've used it on my first oil change and I used Kawasaki oil , almost due for my 3,000 miles. I've had her to red line a few times, been known to push her pretty hard not drag racing. I due curves believe or not she handles very well for a big bike 2nd or 3 rd gear coming out of a turn full throttle well almost!!!! puts a big grin on me with the front end off the ground feeling those Geeforces in full effect, she gives me goose bumps.
For the type of riding I like to do witch would be the best oil filter and oil, I what good tires looking into Q3's(i know those tires wont last long) I want sticky and grip I can feel the stock tires squirming. Any input is greatly appreciated. Finally got use to the weight ready to take to the next level. thx.

How much are you paying for the OEM element Hag? I might be able to help you out with a connection I have.

Oil filter brand doesn't matter as long as you replace it on a frequent basis. I have used not-so-popular FRAM on my 1988 Honda CRX with Catstrol GTX petro oil for its entire life (well till I sold it). After 250K miles, the engine was still in an excellent condition with the within-spec compression on all 4 cylinders. I replaced oil and filter every 3000 miles blindly. Having said that, I have been using Kaw OEM filter for my ZX, mainly due to the warranty concern. I still have a couple of them in my garage but once those are used up, I will start using something else cheaper.

Hey Hag I can get you the OE ones for $8 a pop. Shipping would negate your savings though...

Just turned 50K on my 2012. I have been using Purolator PL14610 from the beginning and have just recently gone to the 10K Purolator PSL14610 which is designed for synthetic oil use.
