Lowering forks
05/04/10 8:46 PM

I was just wondering how many of you lower the front of your bike by running the forks through the triple tree? I've heard about them being tapered so you cannot lower more than an inch or so, but can someone give me some advise?

Thats right, lower the bike, make it handle bad.....

Slow and Bad have a reason to have lowered bikes. Its called drag racing. At real dragstrips. With real christmas trees.

If all you do is ride around town posing, go ahead and lower it.

If you want to ride the twisties aggressively, leave it where it is, improve your brakes, lighten your unsprung weight (wheels, rotors), put better suspension on it.

But the two styles don't mix well.

privateer dont hold back tell us how you really feel about it lmao.

ninja dude that is correct though you can go an inch lower but you will be losing an inch of your fork travel that way(youll bottom out sooner) I had it done on my zx9 only because I couldnt keep the front end down at the strip. on your 14 if your gonna race it everynow and then id just get the front straps they stay on the bike and you just ratchet the front end down and the track then release it when done.
Another thing to keep in mind if you lower it. You may have to replace kickstand with an adjustable kickstand cause the lower you go the higher the bike sits on the kickstand, just a thought

Thanks for the insult privateer but i plan on running at the drag strip and Texas Mile in October.

I guess ill just strap it down if all i can lower through the forks is an inch, does anyone have the problem of the strap rubbing on the round black disk just below the triple tree where strap comes across the frame? my brother strapped his down at the mile and it was hard to turn the bars from the friction of the strap on that disk.

dude youll wanna get a set of adjustable rear lowering links too. little more $$ but you wont have to dismantle the rear end every time you wanna raise or lower it

Yeah im sure the adjustables are nice, but i think im just gonna go with the 3 hole dog bones since i wont be lowering it very often.

How do you like your CT Scott? I plan on getting CT Single Megaphone style myself, the only difference is it mounts on the front peg instead of the rear.

You won't bottom out the suspension.. actual suspension travel is is not changed by moving the forks up in the triples. You will bottom out though... the bottom of the bike. In other words.. you gonna hit sh!t with yer pipes and oil pan. Also your front fender may come in contact the inner faring if you go too low. I pushed mine up just enough so the fender doesn't touch the inner with a strap pulled pretty tight.

dude youll wanna get a set of adjustable rear lowering links too. little more $$ but you wont have to dismantle the rear end every time you wanna raise or lower it

I got adjustable ones.. they are handy in that you can adjust them easy enough and make very precision adjustments.. but the 3 hole ones are actually faster to swap over with a helper. My buddy has a stock wheel base 14 with 3 holes links. I stand on the left side facing the seat, reach over the seat with my right hand and grab the right passenger peg. I grab the left grip with my left hand and I pull the bike up onto the front wheel and the kickstand (it's a lowered kickstand). While I got it up.. almost balanced.. he lays down on the right side and holds the wheel with his knee and swaps the lowest bolt through to the set of holes he wants. We of course loosen the nut and take it off before tipping bike up. Whole process take all of 45 seconds. It takes me way longer to adjust the turn screw type so both are same. I think I will get a set of 3 holes ones now I think about it.
