2017 Cross Country Ride
02/19/17 8:46 AM

So this will be my second cross country ride on my ZX14..... she was a blast to ride on the last one where we shipped my bike and my buddies Busa to San Diego and rode up The PCH to Montaray and through the center of the country. This time we are wanting to ship the bike to Oragon and head through Montana and the Dakota's..... Do you guys know of any real good roads to start from in Oragon. Also any must hits in the Dakotas? Or do you think starting from Washington might be better?

Which shipping company do you use? Does the bike has to be crated?

The Black Hills of South Dakota are chock full of fantastic riding roads- Vannocker Canyon, Needles, Iron Mountain Road, Spearfish Canyon to name a few. Don't miss Glacier National Park and Going to the Sun Road in Montana. The eastern approach to Yellowstone from Red Lodge is Beartooth Pass and The Chief Joseph Highway is nearby.

To be honest I'll have to look back. I only shipped them once to San Fran.... they have a metal skid on wheels where you ride the bike on and then strap it down. It was very stable for sure. It ran 700.00 from CT to CA.

I'm leaving from Florida for Monterey CA on April 16th. Stopping in Arkansas for a spring rally, then to Monterey. I do this every year, my Vietnam buddy is there.

From there, Idaho for a rally, then back to Monterey, then MO, GA, MO, AR, AL, TX, etc. :)

I should be arriving in Monterey on around May 1st or 2nd.

The air suspension controller system on my trike's rear shocks is loosing air pressure. I run it up and if I let it sit 30 minutes its down to 10 psi or so from wherever it was set to. Ran an ultrasonic wand over the lines and fittings and couldn't find the leak.

Possible I have one or two blown shock seals.

Anyway, I'm stopping in Texas at MotorTrikes after the rally in Arkansas in April before I head west. They are going to find the leak and fix it.

Priv Sounds like you need to go to air ride system bags not shocks.

Nobody makes anything that would fit.

If it is the shock(s) I'll put the Progressive 416 shocks on, they are better than OEM.

Somefun - A really great road to take over to the Dakota's is US 2. It runs the entire distance. I prefer WA 2 from Whidbey Island (I live on the Island), until it connects with US20 in Newport Wa. However the road can still have a little snow on it in Late May and Early June. I have seen it snow on the 4th of July. But nothing dangerous. It is one of the best routes across the western US. I prefer to drop down to Yellowstone. Once I hit Kalispell, I head south on 93 to Salmon Id, then over to Yellowstone.
I am hopping to make that ride this year. Jury duty and sailing may get in the way.
If you end up taking that ride and our schedule coincides, I would enjoy the company. Otherwise I will treat you to a cup of Whidbey Coffee.
Good luck and post pictures.
