1st Ride with Ro,ams Flash
01/03/14 1:08 AM

Ok guys im back. Took a while to get issues sorted out but Here's my review with Romans Flash. I put over 350 miles in the last few days testing her out. 190 on the sunday street ride, 100 miles on my normal cummute to work, and the rest just playing around ...

My setup. 2012 zx14, 18,075k on the clock, quick turn throttle, fly's removed, pair block off, two brothers slip ons with db1 sound tips, PC5 with map switch and(allows me to switch between 2 maps in PC5) customem map with 200 hp 118 ft trq, Lowered 2 inches front and rear, 8 inch stretch. a host of cosmetic goodies, and Pilot road 3 tires. When she goes in in the next few weeks, for valve adjustment, new pluggs, filter, oil change, i'll get some dyno numbers and compare then to what i already have.

Got ECU late on a staurday nite 12/28/13. Ok so first switched PC5 to zero map. Installed Romans flashed ECU( [size=200]yes we had to get a new ecu from Kawasaki). Bike fires up and she sounds a litter meaner than before..those that have the two brothers know how boomey they sound. She has more of a high pitch sound to her.... Ok all goood. Let her idle and warm up, twist the throttle and she seems to rev a bit faster than normal.. Okk all good.

Sunday morning 12/28/13 my track buddys call and say lets do a year end ride. I'm like perefect. Great way to test her out. we have some great roads here up in the valley springs/sonara hills. Long sweeping curves, tight 20-40 mile s-turns, rolling hills, ect... lets do this. its been a while. All guys in the group do 4 -8 track days on average together so were comftable with each other....

Note: While the zx14 was down i've been riding my track/street 06 zx10. She's no slouch euther. under 400lbs and a true 180+ hp/86 ft trq to rear wheel.

I have about a 20 minunite ride to the meet up spot.So i'm testing her out..She revs up from low rpms so much faster,so much smoother fom 2k to 6k rpms.. i'm like this is gonna be fun.

Ok so sunday we meet up . About 15 of us. Tempeture when rolling out was a slightly wet 45 degrees, frost still burning off the roads.. After getting out of town the holigasin starts.. Wheelies abound and the roads are dry and good. Weather heats up to about a cool dry 65 degrees, can't wait till summer to really put the power down.

I'm useing full power traction controll set to 1...need a safety net..LOL...switched modes on the fly to turn traction controll off.. didn't notice any real diffrence in acelaration other that i could spin the rear wheel easier and longer before traction control cut in.

1st part of the ride, long straits to rolling sweepers. Rolling along at tripple digit speeds in second and third gear, look down and i'm in second gear 7k-8k rpm showing on the clock, ok heres a good strait, pin the throttle, rear squats front gets light and she rockets forward, snatch third ...rear spins a bit front gets light again and she pulls well past 11k rpms before I gotta brake for the next corner..WOW...SO smoth ....Corners i would normally down shift for, i can just leave in a higher gear, rpms drop into the 2k-3k range and i can just powre out, wheel spinning and front end getting light. She pulls so hard and so strong from down low that i find myself short shifting and still running hard....use to her hitting rev limit at 10.9k....extra revs to 11.5k make a huge diffrece when running hard.

ok so when running in the real tight twisty stuff 20 - 40 mph posted corners the throttle respnse is so smooth down low now and easy to modulate i can basically put her in second or third gear and just roll, using throttle control, where before i would down shift into 1st gear and keep the rpms up. Never had enough strait to get out of 4th gear, but at a buck sixty plus any 1/2 mile strait would be short.

Ok so in my opinion, where this flash shines is in the low to mid range. 2k - 6k rpms...we all know on top in stock and slightly modified form she's an ouragest beast above 8k rpms. tooling along in 6th gear at 80 mph roughly 7k rpm and pinning throttle there is no lag, she just squats a pulls forward like no tommarrow as long as you have clear road ahead of you..before there was a lag until she hit about 8k rpm then all hell broke loose...LOL.

So in closing. Romans flash adresses the issues i had.

1). feeling slow reving in the lower rpms 2k-5k. and also feling a step down in power when getting out of the throttle.
2). able to now switch traction control modes on the fly.
3). revs to 11.5k rpms... over rev is a wonderful thing
4). can possible get rid of PC5.. in my opinion PC5 will never go away... easier to make fueling changes when modifying bike, changing pipes, ect, without sending ecu to be re-programmed, if its not done on a dyno.
5), top end rush is also aswome..
6). for a base setup its hard to beat...dare i say it but its true, its sooo smooth and builds power so easily, that unless running at stupid speeds and banging on it, its sooo smooth it can feel boring to ride fast,,LOL....

06blackpearl apparently there was a corrupt bine file uploaded to woolrich website. Was downloaded into my ecu and corrupted it. No one had clean bin file that mattched my ecu p/n. So had to order as new one and start over.

Yeah its great to rolling again. Hope the weather stays good this weekend. Got another 200 plus road trip planned up in some great roads. Been 40-60 degrees here during the day. Drops into the high 20's at nite. Glad those halos worked out for you bobby. Gonna get one more good ride in before she goes to the shop for a valve adjustment.

I have a few more dress up parts to add, chrome clutch cover, maybe switch to brocks ct duals, anittori quick shifter, and a map with race gas for trips down the track, a stering damper, then I'm done I think. .

Nice write up Casper ! I am partial to the 2012 Green too. Are you running stock sprockets?

Stock size sprockets but running vortex cat5 black rear sprocket, chrome front and ek candy green chain. Got over 10k on this setup so far. Probably gonna go with 16/40 when this set wears out.
