Handgrips
07/10/09 9:33 PM

Hi,
I'm wondering if some of you riders can recommend a softer, thicker, pair of grips for my 06. The stock grips have no give to them at all. I don't want the foam rubber type, just something more comfortable. If you have something in mind, let me know where you got them, and the price. I hope I'm not the only one who doesn't like the stock handgrips. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Maybe a thicker pair of gloves? I like the thin grip. You seem more closer to the feel of the handling. I don't know, maybe it's me in the whack. But I feel so far away with a fatter grip, the fatter glove keeps me closer to the feel of the bike. It is as if I increased the grip size but have the best of both worlds.

Sort of make sense? You may have a whole different feel for a bike and the larger grip, thinner glove, is you.

I've ordered some "Gel-grip" type grips. I'm hoping it will help with the problem of my hands going to sleep on longer rides. I'll report back on how it feels.

Well, the stock grips are like holding on to a steel pole with up to 11,000 rpms of vibration in my opinion and it was making my hands go numb after about 50 miles. So after about a week of having the bike i went down to a place here in Atlanta called "Cycle Gear" and bought some Progrips that had just a little bit more rubber to them and were softer, but looked almost stock (which was a big deal to me because i didnt want to be riding around with some harley looking grips ruining the appearance of my bike) they are "Pro Grip 719 Open End Grips" and are only like $10 or $15 or something and it cut down the numbing vibration drastically and make a ton of difference.

Hope this helped!

Hey Man,
Thanks for the info. on the Pro Grips. I'm gonna check those out. The stock grips usually start to wear on me after only about a half hour. I agree these should look good on the bike and not alter the appearance. It will probably come down to these or the gel grips.
Thanks Again,... TRJ

Renthal. Three durometer grades: Soft, medium, and hard. The softs are great but you've got to enjoy replacing them.
