skidmarx or powerbronze
04/02/09 3:47 PM

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a dark tint DoubleBubble screen for my 14. Got it down to between Skidmarx and Powerbronze. Anyone here with any experience of either of these specifically on the ZZR14?

By the way I've had my 08 14 since April last year and have just clocked up 11,000 miles. Most of these have been 2-up with luggage. I use a givi 52litre top-case and soft panniers. Also added Tom-Tom, intercom, IPOD, heated jacket connection and phone charger. Works really well. Just looking for a bit more protection without the dreaded turbulence.
3rd rear tyre, 2nd front. Now using Pilot Road 2's and I really like them. seem ideal for fast road use. Ride safe.

I have the Kwak tall screen, great quality and fair price, although got mine free through whinging about amount of faults and recalls my bike suffered and lost work time (self employed) hauling it to and from the stealer (who was an arse and did not care less) - 5 Visits in first month, then about another 4 within first 5k!

Like you I do a fair bit of two-up and prefer Europe to Blighty.

I added:

Heli-Bars, which seem great,

Autocom so she can moan, plus can't live without music on bike anymore

Givi V35's panniers, very neat with SW-Motech quick detach rails - come off in about 5 seconds flat

37L top box which I try to keep very light, normally just maps, spare gloves \ jumper \ visor \ ear plugs and other very light itms, normally less than hald full, but useful for locking stuff in when off-bike.

Was going to add an Ohlins to help out suspension but it mounts on same place as panniers, in negotiations for sale or return deal so I cantry to relocate remote units - Mainly want it for the remote pre-load adjuster.

Plan B is get original shock re-worked by MCT suspension, apparently just gassing them correctly and putting quality oil in can make a big improvement, plus maybe go up a spring rate to give a better balanced comprimise between one up and two up.

You may find them useful - £350 to re-oil, re-spring and gas shock + Re-Oil forks and fit better springs.

Flies Out \ PC3 \ Autocom \ Kwak Tall Screen \ Helibars \ Kawasaki Rack \ Givi Panniers and Top box (Ugh!) - Quick Detach :-) \ Tank Bag with Power - Magic! \ Novus Rider GPS (Camera Warning System)

Rasher, couple of quick questions:

1) I'm thinking of adding hard luggage and was planning to go for the givi frames as they seem to fit really close to the bike. Do you have any comments and pictures on the SW Motech ones you're using with and without bags attached.

2) How have you found the Kawa screen. Particularly interested in turbulence

3) What speed does your Autocom work up to? I'm having problems at just speeds above about 80mph in that the pillion mike cuts off the music/sat nav

4) please let us know how you get on with the rear shock upgrade. I too am looking for an upgarde with a remote preload adjuster to cater for pillion and luggage.

Hi, we have the power bronze fitted in the light tint, my was an excellent fit,
but other have had a problem, may be older model than ours, also have the mess hugger fitted,
again a word of warning, if you have an ABS model you have to bend the frame bracket that
hold the brake pipe and the ABS cable otherwise it will shave the top coat off the hugger, this
is the mk.111 hugger from power bronze and will be fine on the non ABS models.

Hi GSIG
Saw your question on luggage, what you will find is if you want to fit just side bars Givis are fine but they are fixed, if you want top box as well, the best way is Sw Motec. You will find there is a problem fitting the rack mount with the Givi rails ( been there got the tee shirt) the Kawasaki rack was made for them by Sw Motec, but comes out as a Kawasaki part, Givi it seems didnt check the fit! I run full SW system which work very well and you can detatch the side rails just leaving bkts, refits in seconds!

Hi Maverick! I would like to ask you a question, concerning the combination of side-bars & top-case from SW-motech (now Kawasaki bought the topcase holder from SW-Motech).

What you're telling us here is that the Givi side-bars & sw-motech top case don't fit each other, I guess due to the support bracket that screws on the back ?

I found the pdf of sw-motech's installation instructions, as also the GIVI ones, and it seems that there is a set of holes there, similar (I don't know if they are identical though) to the ones that givi's support bracket is having, in order for the screws to get a grip.

What was your actual problem ? The support bracket of Givi was not fitting correctly ? Or there is a lot of stress on these screws that you would end up losing something on the road ?

Awaiting for your feedback !

I had a Powerbronze DB screen. It did NOT fit flush with the forward nose area.Gap of about 3/16ths" or slightly bigger.Too bad,it was a very cool iridium screen.
