2011 ZX14 Recall
02/28/11 6:53 AM

Heard from a guy who might make highway pegs (!) for the ZX14 (makes them by the boatload for C14s) that when he went to the Kawasaki dealer to measure a 2011 ZX14, he was told bad news.

All 2011 ZX14s have been recalled to have the valves replaced. Oppsss.....

Big surprise, dealer knows nothing about a recall. Will have to call again and ask someone else.

I looked on the official Kawi website...no recalls in there.

Don't know, dealer told him they had to send the crates back unopened even, and I doubt the dealer would lie. If it is a brand new, sudden, recall, then word will work its way to the dealers before the website will say anything the public can see.

I wonder if there was confusion with the ZX-10.. Now that would be a funny story...sent the wrong bikes back!

Dude, PLEASE keep us posted on those highway pegs!!! I'd be VERY interested in those. Living in Texas, highway riding is most of what I do. I'd love to be able to post up on some pegs for a much longer ride!

A guy here makes highway pegs for the conni, he is using my bike for measurements to make highway pegs for the 14. Nice guy! The highway pegs on his conni look like Kawi put them there!

I told him to post about them here, as there are guys here that are basically turning their 14's into conni's on steroids.

I'm still trying to get him to make a prototype. If he doesn't do it soon, I'm going to get my friend who is a great machinist to do it. I was just hoping since the guy already made them for the C14, he could modify it slightly for the ZX14.

So far, he is saying stuff that doesn't make sense, which makes me wonder if maybe he knows a lot about machining and not much about motorcycles.

For one thing, he told me the footpeg part of it would have to be "inside the fairing" and we all know, the fairing is so tight to the bottom cases there is barely room for a gnat to crawl through there. So I'm waiting for a response to that observation.

Maybe he means...up attached to the forward engine mounts?IDK.That's the only place I could think of to mount any kind of "highway" type pegs.Next thing(besides the steroids)is gonna be an "elkhorn" handlebar setup .(and a sissy bar) .And LOWERED about 3 inches!

You obviously don't do 8 hour days in the saddle. Besides, mine is almost sit-up-straight now, so they make sense.

I could care less if they are of use to you.

Ya, I been emailing him for a long time. He said he'd found one to measure, so I guess it was yours. Good!

I found his posts at the COG forums where he is selling the C14 version, and asked him, what if......

Yeah, it's my bike he's using for measurements. Hell of a fabricator! He lives 15-20 minutes from me.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

Don't know about them highway pegs...when I see cruiser riders with their legs all splayed out, I think of a woman in stirrups in the birthing position...

Like I said, you guys most of you never ride more than a couple hours at a time.

I ride 8-10 hour days on some of my long trips. Its nice to be able to stretch my legs out for a while.

I agree, the ones that spread your legs way out are stupid looking. These I'm talking about stay close to the cowling.

Its all changed now. I have a Concours 14. I have a set of the highway pegs for it, and they are very nicely made. I have to wait until I mount the wind wings to see if I can still put the highway pegs on. I'll figure out a way to do it.

Most, but not all. I've done SS1000's on a ZZR1200 and a ZX-11. Owned a Concours for the past 4 years and oddly enough never did. I just got a 2012 14 and I should have the time to do at least one this year. The longest day I've done was on the ZZR, 26 hours. It was a Saddle Sore that went wrong.

Hope you enjoy the C14, it just wasn't the bike for me. I only put about 30,000 miles on it while I owned it. I never could quite get comfortable with the upright riding position.

If your looking for comfort, CalSci make a windshield that's huge. Techmount makes a great GPS mount that sits in between the bars. The Kawasaki bags (for inside the hard bags) are better than any I ever found. The PR3's are the best tires I found the bike. Good grip, wet or dry, and good life.
