Break in Question
04/02/14 4:18 PM

I will be picking up my 14 14R this weekend or Monday. They will be installing Yoshimura R-77 Full System Exhaust, Dynojet Power Commander 5, Dynojet Power Commander 5 Auto Tune Kit - Single Sensor, BMC Air Filter. With 0 miles on the bike. Will this be a problem of any kind for the bike to have the parts installed before it's had the 1k mile break in? Or will do I just break it in as if it where stock? Thank you.

Break-in is about getting the moving parts used to each other, so do it the same as if it were stock. And then put your tire supplier on speed-dial.

LOL that's funny. I guess I'm also concerned with it having the power commander, how will it run with it being ridden at just 4k rpm for the first 600 miles and 6k rpm for the next 400 miles. I guess I will have to get it tuned after that?

Don't kid yourself, Danno has his tire guy on speedial

As Danno stated, bike does not know what oil it has in it, what day it is, who is riding it, just follow the owner's manual break-in procedure.

Signed,

Break-in does not know a bazz from a boat, a pea sea from a pc this or piss on that, break-in only cares about rpm speed vs. hours (or miles conversion meaning)

Conventional wisdom:
I'd prefer to break in a bike with the mods on it like you are doing. If that is how the engine will be run, thayt is how it is best broaken in.

Get it out on a desolate road within a few miles of the dealership. OPen it up to redline several times in gears 2, 3, 4. There is a good online tutorial on this, Google "motoman break in".

Other side of the coin:
Break the bike in exactly by the book for maximum longevity and best service with least maintenance.

Reality:
You bike has been redlined already. They get each bike on a dyno at the factory to test that it meets max hp specs. Do whatever you want, she's your baby. Just use common sense and be careful.

hahah, I like to break my bikes in hard from the start and gradually go a littl easier on them until they reach about 2000 miles. Then I don't worry about it anymore. Busa was broke in like that., Runs great. 14 was broaken in easier, almost / by the book. 14 runs graet too. so I don't think it matters much.

enjoy yourself IL

(if you thin IL sux, try WI)
