2006 ZX 14 For sale $5500 PRICE DROP
07/09/12 10:39 PM

Hello, I am looking to sell my 2006 Kawasaki ZX14. Price is $5500 firm.

I love this bike, but I have a couple of fused vertebrae in my neck along with some other minor back and shoulder problems that make it too painfull to ride even this relatively comfortable sportbike. Therefore, I am looking for something I can tour on in comfort. I am located in Salt lake city, UT.

The bike has 22,500 miles and it is a great sport touring motorcycle.

Comfort mods done:
1" lower Buell footpegs(Still have the originals)
Laminar lip windscreen.
Stacked Helibar/Genmar handlebar risers good for about 1.25" rise and 1/2" pullback.
Heated grips.

Performance mods done:
Secondary butterflies removed and fuel injection was remapped with a Power commander PC3.

Other mods done:
12v outlet.
Sw Motec quick release luggage rack with Givi V35 hardbags painted "Candy thunder blue" to match the bike.

Recent maintenance:
Both tires, chain, rear sprocket, oil, oil filter, brake fluid, and air filter were replaced last Summer, approxamatlely 1800 miles ago. The battery was replaced last Winter.

I have a clean Utah title in hand.

*The bike no longer has the Muzzy exhaust shown in some of the pictures below. It has a stock exhaust.

It's a shame you are so far away I have thought about that very trade myself.

Hey 1wheelpeel, How many miles are on that FJR? Is that an after market windscreen?

That I believe is the CeeBailey +4". I have four different windshields that I use at different times of the year. I would have to look to see but approx 30k, it's an`05.

Hey Danimal, before you get a cruiser style bike you better try a few out. i rode a Rocket to Yosemite. It had no windshield and therefore I was hung out like a parachute in the wind. It was a great bike but the riding position was horrendous. Sitting upright with your feet in front of you puts all the weight on your tailbone which KILLS in a few miles. My wife also hated the passenger seat. Just my .02

Maddevill, thanks for the input. You're right about the seating position of cruiser bikes. I'm thinking that, if I don't find a good trade before my vacation in September, I'll wait untill February and trade mine in on something newer and nicer than I can afford right now. If was was to get a Rocket, I would get the roadster version with the pegs that are more under the seat. I would also put a windsheild on it.

Right now I'm actually leaning more toward a Concours 14, or Bmw R1200RT. The Concours seems like more bang for the buck, but the bmw feels more comfortable and way lighter too. We'll see what happens between now and February. (or sooner, if the right trade comes along.

I need to get some opinions/thoughts from a few people that have gone from the ZX14 to the Concours. I should talk to privateer.

Hi Danimal, Really love your area. I was stationed in Ogden around 1977.
I had an '06 ZX-14. Sold it a few years after I bought a used '03 ST1300. My 14 had stiffer fork and shock springs, Slipons, PC3 and Carrozzeria forged AL wheels.
Took about a year to sell it and when I did I only got $6k for it. Had 28k miles and was in great shape. The market was terrible at the time.
The ST1300 was not the bike for me. The engine just plodded along and didn't like to rev. ST owners will tell you how smooth the V4 is but it is not smooth at all. I have 2 Aprilia's, an '01 Mille R and an '03 Tuono. Both of them are a lot smoother than that Honda was.
I sold the ST after 3 years and bought an '08 C14. Nice bike. 25k miles, Cee Bailey windscreen, heated grips and an Audiovox cruise control. Good price at $7k. I put an '08 ZX14 header on it so I could run dual exhaust's and get rid of the stock single pipe which felt like it had catalyst and concrete in it.
Had the left side pipe custom bent out of stainless, has 2 Area P SS slipons.
Pulled the flies and put a PC V on it. The Connie was pretty weak when I bought it. Now it can at least get out of it's own way. Power wise it's on par with my pals '09 K1200R Sport. The Connie does weigh a good bit more and both bikes are shaft drive. But the Connie is a lot more comfy and has some wind protection.
I've ridden a lot of cruiser bikes and can not ever see buying one. All of the shock load goes right through my spine.

Anyway, the C14 is a great bike but it does need some work. Mine needs stiffer springs and a better shock, at least now it's almost fast.

If you weren't so far away I'd buy your 14 from you for your asking price.
Good luck with the sale!

Netlosh. Thanks for the input. Funny you brought up the Connie 14. I have narrowed my search for a new bike to either a Connie 14 (prefer 2010+), or a lowish mileage Bmw R1200RT. Therefore, I will just sell my bike now and wait untill February when I have the money to buy something nice. My limit for a newer bike will be about $13,500. I think I should be able to find a clean used 2010-11 Concours for that price.

How loud are your Area P Slipons? I would like to open up the exhaust a little, but I don't like the sound of an inline four, so I want to keep it somewhat quiet. If I get the Connie, I plan to pull the flies and remap the fuel injection like you have done, but I'm not so sure about the exhaust. How is the low RPM power with the flies pulled and Powercommander? Also, is the engine heat problem on the Connie as bad as it's made out to be? Is it any worse than the ZX14?

Thanks,
Danimal14

Danimal,

Try zggtr.org and forum.cog-online.org - there are several used c14s there now. 2010+ has abs, heated grips, and traction control standard. I dont need traction control - never needed it on my zx-14 and I rode in heavy rain, but I do like having ABS.

My recommendation: keep the zx14. I have a 2012 c14 and it just feels so weak compared to the zx14 I had, and that bike only had the flies removed. I am looking to add a zx10 or bking for the power hit.

The c14 is comfortable but coukd still use some tweaks for me.

My c14 is cooler than the zx14 - no issues with heat. Mirror placement isnt't great and the 2010s have better mirrors placement than 2008 and 2009, so I can't imagine how bad those mirrors are.
