Warranty Issues
02/12/12 3:32 AM

Just asking because i had a issue wih the 2010 ninja 250 and the guy fron the warranty department.... was a little clueless !

here's the deal.... i say within 1000 miles what would happend is the rpms would jump say 800 to 900 on the tach.

so after maybe 20 to 30 mins of riding in warm weather.. and say you were on the interstate the bike would go from say 5900 to 6800 after the bike was run awhile.

did some research and found out there was tons and tons of riders on the web with the same problem...it started in 08 with the desigh of the bike and their where tons of ninja 250 with the same issue.

so i guess the fix was to install a pre 08 cdi box if i remember, so when i called the warranty department the guy acted think he had never heard of this issue.... and then finally he amited it and said yes we did replace some cdi boxes but now the problem was fixed and we don't replace them anymore... that's funny because more and more riders were having issues with the 2010 models.

now to have a ninja 250 on the interstate and the rpm jump 1000 is not the greatest thing to happen on a small motor like that, even tho i did drop 3 teeth off the rear sprocket.

anyways just wondering, because i did have the 99 busa and suzuki did have issues... with the cam tensioner on that bike and when mine failed and i eat 6 or 7 valves and destroyed the head, they replaced the head and all the valves in less then 2 weeks and did not miss a beat.

i said you never heard of the problem their's like 3 to 4 thousands riders with the same issue, then he says o their was a problem but we fixed it.... i said well i have a 2010 and it's the same problem... and it's starting to get worse.

fixed the issue when i traded for the 600 yamaha at a kaw/yam dealer let them deal with it... if thier is no problem.... lol ... so far the yamaha has been as solid as a rock.

so are their alot of issue with kaw and how good do they cover their warranty issues ?

I need a clarification. Are you describing a malfunction of the tach? The tach is reading a number and then it jumps up 1000 rpm's? Or are you saying the engine speed picks up 1000 rpms with no increase in road speed, as though the clutch were slipping? Or is the bike picking up 1000 rpm's and a corresponding increase in speed?

runner, I think he is saying, yes, we changed the spark box [if] that was the cure to the timing of the spark to the tack? Right? Sparks fast or slow is the tack shows the up and down via the needle? That's my guess. Then, the sprocket change has zip to do with the tach to spark. They [the spark], have no clue what that throttle is doing is just follow that throttle opening, right?

The bike will or should be covered as far as what is written in the sales documents handed to you. Show service records with proof, beyond service expectations, meaning, whichever comes first. You tour a 1000 miles a day, you're warranty is up in a month and a few gas stops here or there further up the road in say a few days.

The bike is going to be drag raced, trackday'd, abused on the street, toured some... So far, so good.

yes the tach would read about 1000 rpms higher with no increase in road speed.... early on they did replace some tachs but the issue was in the cdi unit.

it would only happen if the temp was 75/80 degrees or higher... some riders were moving the cdi where the box would get more fresh air and run cooler, but that did not work.... i never did drop the bike off at a dealer for warranty check..... i just ran with it.... and then one day i stoped at a local dealer just to look around and they were givng great deals on fz6r so i jumbed on the deal.

list 7149 buy today 5149 so the ninja was traded in.... fun little bike.
