Post re-install observations of ATP turbo
08/31/09 4:36 PM

The turbo has been fully re-installed and everything working correctly. I had a little issue with the oil restrictor I had purchased as it would not connect to the oil feed hose that came with the ATP turbo. After fab’ing up my own restrictor, and that leaking a little, I went to an aircraft shop and they made up a new hose, and put some aircraft insulation around it.

The hose works great.

In addition to ceramic coating, initially I had also installed 2K turbo wrap, wrapped the header and wastegate. I found that after turning the bike off in the morning, it would still be very warm by the late afternoon, so I removed it. I did leave the wastegate wrapped, since it is so close to a few items that can not stand the heat.

Initially I had an ATP exhaust dump pipe and that went by the way side for a full exhaust system. The dump pipe did not allow the lower skin to be installed, or I needed to mod the pipe, or cut the skin. I installed the wastegate a few months ago, and just found the wastegate smaller dump pipe, and installed it yesterday. Like the exhaust dump pipe, it did not fit. It was 1" to far forward to allow the lower skin install, just like the larger dump pipe. After some manual bending, it is 'just' within the lower skin opening, now.

The oil restrictor is a .065 restrictor. I think ZXBob had used a .05, and Lyle a little larger. I have a digital oil pressure gauge. With no restrictor, after the bike was warmed up, it would typically read 0 pressure until about 2-2500K, and the top PSI was in the 40's blasting at higher RPM's. The OEM oil pressure gauge never gave any warnings in this regard.

With the .065 restrictor in place, the oil pressure, after warming, will come to 4-7 PSI between 1500-2000K, and blasting down the road at high RPM's will get into the mid 70's.

With all of the ram air duct pipe gone, there is plenty of space for gadgets. I also found when an HID system does not light up correctly, check the bulb first! LOL
