Motor swap

Does anyone know if there is a way to install the 2018 ZX14R motor into a 2015 ZX14R? the gear selector sensor is completely different and so is the end of the shift drum. I do not want to open this motor up simply to change out the shift drum.

If there are subtle differences like THAT, then I would also wonder if you will need a new ECU. IF there are mechanical differences, there may well also be electrical system and ECU differences, and a simple reflash will NOT correct that, as the commercially available reflashes only address specific performance-related data fields and code, not ALL code.

Furthermore, once you install a 2018 engine into a 2015 chassis, you have a mismatch between ECU / engine / chassis, and might not be able to find anyone outside the Kawasaki design center that can make them work together properly and fully.

This swap sounds risky.

This is the first I have heard of there being any difference between a 2015 and a 2018.

Can I swap a 2018 ZX14R engine into a 2015 ZX14R frame? Yes.
Is the end of the shift drum specific to the gear sensor? Yes.
Will the 3 sensor wires [still match] from sensor to main harness no matter the year? Yes.
Do I need to swap the sensor connectors to return the wires back into their designated locations? Yes.
Should I make a tool to depress the tangs in the connector so I don't squid the wire integrity and/or connector? Yes.

Can you find a similar engine? There is a lot of reference here https://www.allicdata.com/blog
