Don Guhl no longer doing streetbike re-flashing.

Don Guhl's website says he is no longer accepting street bike ECU's for re-flashes for bikes with a vin number. Not sure what happened but it was probably either the EPA or his insurer. If this this is just the first strike look for other Re-flash services to be hit soon which could also affect Dynojet.

I suppose the VIN is encoded on the ECU. So now you will need to buy a race ECU which Guhl will probably sell already flashed. That will drive the cost up just a bit. Some bikes like the S1000rr have hack software you can use to flash by yourself. I suppose that will become more widespread.

How do you say, I have a racing bike and here is my 'closed course' cali. registration. That way the flashers have a legit flash.

Not if you take your "race bike" out on the street and ride it. I'm sure flashers already say their product is for closed course racing only and not for use on the street. Apparently that disclaimer wasn't legit enough for insurance or legal protection. The only way I can see a flasher avoiding liability for either is to accept only race ECUs and even that is no proof that race ECU won't go in a bike operated on the street.
