Bay Area - Alice's loop
11/24/13 1:58 PM

90 mile loop. Starting point can be anywhere along the route. I do this on a somewhat regular basis (less so now that the days are shorter and colder, but still do able).

Let me know if you want to ride along. Alternative is to go Hwy 92 into Half Moon Bay instead of going down into La Honda (though the La Honda route is way more fun, less car traffic).

I do the loop counterclockwise.

Hey Openroad. You're riding in my backyard. We have a semi-regular breakfast loop that we do with around 4 guys. Alices for eggs and coffee. 35 to Hwy 9 to Boulder Creek, Jamison Creek to Empire, Pine Flat to Hwy 1. Davenport for a pastry, then Swanton, Gazos Creek, Pescadero and back up 84 to STP. Let me know when you're going again and I'll keep you posted the next time we venture out.

I did the run yesterday.

Sounds good - though it is more fun to do it the other way round, UP Hwy 9, NB on 35, Down 84, SB on Hwy 1. In spring or summer, the wind along the coast is at your back, also going downhill on 9 is a PITA.

I live near Boulder Creek, so 'starting' at Alice's I'm already halfway through the loop. An alternative for someone coming from over the hill to meet with someone from the Santa Cruz side, is to come up Hwy 9 out of Saratoga, meet up at the summit of 9/35, then proceed NB Skyline to Alice's... breakfast, the rest of the loop going counter clockwise.

Cheers -

Either way is fun. I'll let you know the next time we're heading your way. We could probably just meet you guys in Boulder Creek.

sounds good guys. If you come from that far, then a second ride is necessary, down Hwy 1 to Big Sur.

This may be incentive enough for me to purchase a new Ford van and load the beast in the back for a tire and wear & tear saving ride to the West coast.

Thanks for the great pics, map and link.

I was in CA some time ago and didn't really care for it in the South. Sierras and Yosemite were a much different story; they were great!

But, I have wanted to see Alice's and Big Sur since the 60's.

Gotta do this while I still can! Next Spring or Fall??..........hmmmm.

Also: My favorite cars on each side of the stairs!

Some rude hogs blocking the stairs and trashing up the picture but we can overlook that.... or maybe photoshop them out of the way?

Hey, Kofla........can you get those road blocks out of this picture?

I drive past Alice's every day on my way to work. I'm in the car as I am not into riding after dark in traffic, but I did see 2 bikers this morning parked out front of Alice's, and it was about 28 degrees outside. Hard core riders for a 7:30am breakfast.

btw, the gas station across the street from Alice's has the most expensive gas in the bay area.

I road the ridge road many hundreds of times when I lived in San Jose. Every Sunday morning we'd meet at Alice's. The Harleys had the parking lot at Alice's, the sportbikes had the strip mall across the street.

Back then with low POlice presence we'd do stoppies on the flat between the two groups of bikes, sometimes to applause. I don't know if they still do this, as it was back in the early 1990s, like '91, 92, 93...

Haven't mad the treak to Alices in while. Been on that loop many times when i Lived in San Jose. I do get up there about every 2 months or so to meet up with guys out of San San Jose.. Its a 1 - 1.5 hour drive to get there from where i'm at. I usually spend most of my rideing time up in the foot hills below yosemite. Hwy49 or as we call it the Lil Dragon...

I'm organizing a ride with SCR (sacramento crotch rockets). We plan on heading to Alices and riding the road there...hwy 1, skyline, ect. The date hasn't been set yet.

Anyone local want to join In on the ride? Would be so sweet to have some zx14 riders with us.
