soft bags.

Does anyone know of some good high quality soft saddlebags and back bag for the 14R? Would a generic set work?

Do they fit good on the R with stock cans? How much weight will they hold, is the mounting sturdy?

yes, they fit fine with the stock exhaust. If you take the time to adjust the straps that go under the seat and hold the saddlebags on, they dont touch when empty. and might not when full. either way, they have a heat resistant bottom that is supposed to be ok with touching a bit.

as far as how much they hold... hmm, not sure yet. Ive not loaded them up. I'd guess for weight, as long as your NOT filling them with lead, they would hold whatever you could fit in them.

the top pack wont fit a helmet. all 3 expand, and do have rain covers.

How much would you say they could hold? I'm planning on taking a month long trip covering the whole country. From L.a to key west and everything in between so I'm going to need some nice big sturdy bags.

As I've posted before, I had great experiences with my set of Kriega tail bags - secure at excessive speeds, waterproof, easy on/off, and no permanent mounts. I've got the US-40 set (40 L capacity) and have done 5 days, they're good enough for maybe a week. I know they've come out with larger bags since, but any solution will be hard pressed to support a month without some stops at the laundromat en route :P

Actually, that was at the HD factory open house in York, PA. Cool seeing the assembly line and always welcome an excuse to test ride new bikes.

I know there is a dealer in Florida that looks almost identical.
