2012 ZX14 Emission Cannistor removal question?
01/26/13 2:53 PM

Searched and couldn't find anything on removing Big black emmission cannistor located inside right side lower fairing behind signal light. Looks like its also tied into the idle contraol valve, gas tank and throttle bodies. Any info on remove it and blocking off the syatem? if so any info on how to do it would be appreciated.

First, is it worth it? No. Why? Because you'll lose vapor and make the bike knock even more you let that bike sit for weeks, meaning. A daily driver is not a problem. So say if you are that kind of rider, leave it alone. It hurts nothing if not peps a cylinder up a little with the vapor being pumped in, and this too stabilizes the tank's ventilation from buckling the paint.

For Racing Purposes Only:

1. Sit on the bike and look down. See those two hoses off to the right? One is a blue dot, one a red dot sort of location to match the paint marks on the hoses too?

2. You wash the bike, overfill the gas in the tank, there is a hole for rain to slip past the gas cap, so that hose to the left is that drain hose dumping to the ground.

3. The two hoses you mentioned off the throttle body, those can be removed and now plug the throttle body air nipples with rubber plugs. NAPA should have something small like that.

4. Retune. Why? Because the other air screws are shut off, these are open that you plugged up. You now have to sync the throttle bodies as per manual. That means you can close them all down and call it a day, or you can cure the buzz out of the handle bars you book that body.

5. The blu/red vents?; you keep those open. Run a hose down to the ground; away from the engine; away from the rear tire. You can run the hose up and back to the taillight so the gas has to run up a hill. If you fill past the bottom of that neck, that is when the sloshing happens and out the red line it goes. Blu, if mem serves, is the tiny hole you lift the gas cap and see that nipple hanging down on the gas cap side? Start to close the cap and watch were that nipple falls into?

If you could look inside the tank, blu line is going to the pump and sucks so the diaphragm in the gas cap collapses and that lets air into the gas tank. The diaphragm is closed when the bike is turned off. When warm, the vapor expands and you can hear a noise. That's the flapping of the diaphragm going all neutral to the atmosphere. Any pressure past the penultimate, she screams in the garage you hear that noise sometimes, right? That's what you're in for.
