Okay Guys-here's my question-I'm going to have my valves checked, throttlebodies sync'd,and spark plugs checked.Any one know how long this should take a "qualified" Kawasaki mechanic to perform? And is this a fairly straightforward operation?Just need some approximate time-if anyone has had a qualified Kawi mechanic do these procedures on their bike. Thanks all.

Yes, it is a set, "Flat Rate." With all the product line going on, no mechanic knows a new engine family well enough to beat the flat rate.
Yes, it is so routine, I can wipe my fill in the blank blind folded neatly it is so routine.

How many miles are on your bike. Chances are you might just need plugs and an air filter unless you have been putting alot of hard miles on that thing. They are going to hit you real hard at the Kawaski shop dude!

To much to list!

No, not really. I worked for a single line dealer that would feed me lunch free just to stay and pound out the work. Close the books at the end of the year and they were making a little more than me as far as salary. I mean, they were there paying rent, lights, oil pickup, and the list goes on if you see all the little things involved with "Overhead" and because the back charges a high price is more to keep the back open with all the new model updates, the special tools you agreed to is sign on the dotted line for that contract to buy all that is factory franchise.

Dealer sends the back to the dealer updates, so Monday is more or less school. You are going to get great techs at the franchise. You just need to hunt for them. You still have that dealer principal backing up his work, so you should not be that turned off about dealer level. If you do not do your own work or rather not mess with it, then consider the first hour a given. It is diagnostic, the paper trail needed to cover their butt... It's hard to have a bike biz is ask the dealer that used to post is that, AttacKawi?

You have that time your bike sits insured waiting for parts or to have whatever else is on back-order is also a given. Because, all the crashing is not Kawi's fault parts are on B/O. If your bike is pushed in and out in all types of weather, that is how it is in the back. Unless the shop is huge and can store every bike that comes in and you have [cleaner bike] where a group of people can walk rather than climb over the bike. Should I keep going how the back works and you could do the same if you had a little mechanical background to try it and if not, then do not try the attempt.

It is cheaper if you pay than play and bang, that was not a smart move on the execution. That is going to cost [more than if a dealer did that same routine] is it. If you are watching High School Build or whatever Speed has on, you can see the kids are seeing how tight the measuring can be. Once that tooth is off and she comes around one tine is give that valve a new angle.

Wow, is that hourly rate going to hurt. Thing about that flat rate book is that is the least amount of time. Now look at the flat rate of one hour are what... $85? Say it is that hourly rate = Tell me if the dealer is ripping you off or charge you more is split that with the mechanic somehow and now what can you do?

Pay or play?

Blue07, unless you are a complete mechanical dunce, I think you can do this. Might I suggest you start out with something simple like the plug change first and gain some confidence then do valves next time and finally throttle body synch last as that one requires more special tools (gauge set and special screwdriver for the synch screws. Is there anyone nearby you with a 14? You can take turns helping each other during the learning phase. Two heads are almost always better than one!
