just another newbie

hello all! I've recently purchased a 2014 ZX14R from my desk in Afghanistan, impatiently waiting for my contract to end, because I've only seen my steed in fuzzy pix a friend (she got 2 dozen flowers for helping me make the purchase) took at the dealership. I've previously owned a '02 Honda 929RR and I currently own a '06 GSXR1000 which I intend to keep for track use. I'm 6'1", 230lbs which is one of the reasons for the new bike. (Speed was never a consideration ). I'm very interested in setting the bike up for touring purposes so all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Go hit some twisty roads. You'll find the local riders.

A bit of rambling may be in order;
I only have 600 miles on it, but I definitely need to tighten up the suspension. I just got back from Seoul and ordered a lot of the Euro Spec stuff while I was there, so I'll be adding all that as it arrives (hooks, rear grab bar, lifting handle, shorter tail fairing, etc). Cosmetically I'm pretty happy with it. I really like the MRA Windscreen along with the T-Rex sliders as far as that goes. As for the top case....I wouldn't want to be the one sitting back there leaning back on it. And if its not built for it, Givi shouldn't advertise the back pad. Since my lady is much smaller and lighter than me it may not be much of an issue. I'm still going to look into modding a back rest. Also, I am wishing I'd held out for the bigger 56L Givi Top Case (it was sold out) because adding the side bags is a bit much for me.
I took off most of the stickers (Scorpion off the exhaust, Kawasaki off the tank, ZX-14R off the tail, and i'll probably remove the 'Ninja' from the front fairings) because it feels as if they'll be falling off at some point anyway so if i do it now, there won't be any 'ghost' impressions in the paint job. As for the Genmar risers....They don't work for me. They actually make things a bit worse. I get a lot more fatigue in my triceps and whatnot. I chalk that up to body geometry or whatever. The Scorpion Serket Parallel pipes work just fine for me. They're a bit louder than stock with more bass, but not Yoshi or Akra bass. I haven't had the bike over 7 grand, so I don't know what they sound like at speed yet.

I definitely need to install the HID Kit if I'm going to do any night riding. The cutoff on the stock headlamp is terrible.

Nice bike mate. I really like the matte black & red, works well together. Probably would've gotten the same if that was available in Australia.

@Kixxit

Bike looks great! The stock headlight for sure needs to be adjusted UP, haven't done that yet, but will do shortly.
The Scorpions look sharp on that without the badges!

Great weekend to be riding in WA State. I've finally gotten comfortable enough open it up a bit. I was doing 80mph in 6th with a passenger and my 46L Givi (it's a rear wing/stabilizer as far as i'm concerned) and managed to hit 140+mph before reigning it back in. Damn this bike is smooth. All I got is a little wobble in the front end. Next time I'm dropping to 5th and going for 160+mph...unless I'm solo - then its all out!

160mph = Remove givi and passenger. Rear wing stabilizer my ass... That combo has wobble written all over it.

OMG - I was just kidding about the Givi being a rear wing! I was also joking about having a loved one riding shotgun while going for a personal land speed record! Anything over 140mph is definitely a solo undertaking!

P.S. - I also try to avoid hitting small innocent cute animals. I try harder to avoid hitting big guilty ugly ones!

I now believe in mirror extenders. It took a while tho. I have stock on the left and the extender on the right (install problem - working with twisted throttle to get it worked out) and at first the extended seemed....distorted???? (if anyone else has experienced it, do let me know) I simply could not feel comfortable with it for quite a while. After a long ride, I do see the benefits tho. I'll be keeping them. I've also inquired about the 56L Givi case. the 47L doesn't quite hold two modular helmets without scratching everything up all to hell trying to make it happen. If the 56L doesn't install with the 46L kit, I probably won't get it. Yes, I'm lazy. I still need to firm up the suspension. A LOT.

What size Givi tank bag (installed via tank ring) is currently all the rage?

Oh, yes....

Ok, so in a fit of nostalgia (and because I haven't been able to get to the track with it) I jumped on the '06 GSXR1000 to go get groceries. haven't ridden it for over a year (working overseas does that to ya!) I felt like a fuq-ing circus bear on a tryke. I also felt scared as hell. Yes, I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt to go 1.5miles. But I can say for certain I would've felt perfectly fine on the big ninja. raw vs refined no doubt!
