Dyno Tuning
09/02/09 4:44 PM

I am having my 07 tuned because I am trying to reduce the pop I am getting at about 3500 RPM when decellerating.

The current configuration is stock other than a set of Area P's. What I would like to know is....Does 160.58 RWHP sound about right for my setup before tuning? Not that it matters much, as I have no desire to ride the bike up at its limits. Since the tuner gave me the number, part of me just wants to know if that is normal.

Ray,

I believe that each of these bikes, stock, will dyno within a few HP of one another on the same dyno and conditions. So your number is about 'normal', what ever that is. Mine, on a conservative dyno, was 158 stock, others have had in the higher 160's... all due to the dyno differences, location, etc.

When you use a dyno and tuner even more, that you find you like, I'd suggest you get a basemap, fully stock bike set of pulls, so you have something to compare any change you make to your bike later.

You know, you may end up getting rid of the decel pop by good tunning, and you may not. Good luck with that.

Lastly, never compare your bikes numbers with any other bike, off a different dyno. That is comparing apples and oranges.

Now, one way to get rid of the pop on an 07 is to use a TRE. Hub can tell u a lot about TRE's... but one function is to change the map to 'neurtal', which appears to get rid of the pop.

I messed with leaning my map a whole ton, and never got rid of the pop. I have Area P now, as well. The pop was also on my Yoshi's.

Ditto on the TRE, I have the TRE 006a ($49 from Ivan Performance)and it knocked off the decel popping and smooths out the throttle a bit. Definitely worth the money but it will lock you gear indicator into 'N' all the time so you'll have to learn to live without it. The 006a works only on '06 and '07 models and works only with flies out. If your flies are still in you'll have to either learn to live with the popping or pull flies (which I would do anyway).

I had bad decel popping on my CBR but changed maps yesterday and the decel popping on that bike seems to be history. Each bike is different, 14's seem to pop regardless of the mapping, get the TRE.

I'm trying to avoid pulling the flies. Primarily because I am lazy and don't want to do the work.

Where do you live Ray? It's a one hour job, if you are close by I'll come over and help you pull them. You'll thank me, nobody that ever took out flies ever put 'em back in, bike will now run as it was intended.

I didn't want to pull mine either....but it only took me a whole 1000 miles, riding with the ridiculous low end restriction on my 06, before I couldn't stand it anymore and pulled them. It was the easiest thing I've done to my 14 besides putting on the speedohealer The hardest part was getting the ecu plug diconnected behind the engine to get my power commander plugged in

I am slowly shaking down this new combo I have now. Ray? Leave them INN! I am about pissed and a 1/2, I may have to swap the other body back. This bike has such a nagging lag, I threw so much gas at it, my stock pipes are turning golden.

If I cannot find that little clean bump to be gone, I would have to reinstall the sub'd body back in because this thing is a popping fool for one. That does not concern me. I'm feeling a lag that the sub system cleans up and that is what is driving me to throw up my hands and leave it stock once again.

Hey, I've thrown both switches and that kind of throttle action would not clear it up. We are talking some fast moving air before the fuel can match that lag. If it takes a grid worth of the hez on the bottom to clear up... I do not know if that Tfi can do it. It may take the PC to pinpoint it. So, basically, that Tfi is for shit as far as bagging that lag a bit better.

Get it? It will pave the whole road over with a throttle apply, rather than patch the bump where you need it. Stock, probably would work the best is layer or pave over that stock trim with flies in. I'm having a bad day knowing I am fly-less. And there you go, Ray.

RDosdorian if you were having your bike done at NorCal cycles in Milbrea I saw your bike on the rack. I live in San Bruno, maybe we can ride sometime.

zx14nsingle... Yes, that would be mine. A ride would be great, but you will have to wait for the wheels to get back from being black chromed.

I see and hear alot about dyno tuning and I have never had my bike on a dyno, but I do have a question ring in if you know the anwser. When your bike is being tuned is there and air source being supplied for the ram air. I dont mean the fan that is for cooling. The reason I ask is if your bike is going say 150mph and air is introduced to the system at that speed this increesed air speed (pressure) would translate to hp or Tq gains at a that speed wouldn't it (RAM AIR INDUCTION)I am just wondering why this is not done and if it is what is the differnce without the forced air induction This is not to say that the faster you go the more hp you gain just that if it isn't done then how can you tune your bike/motor properly without forced AIR induction. would you not just be tuning it to ambiant pressure or (motor Tq pressure) ie Tq induction hell ring in if you dont know the anwser ...xxx's

^^I have heard of tuners using something like a leaf blower to simulate ram air effect. I don't believe this is done by all tuners as strange as that seems.

The reason I ask is if your bike is going say 150mph and air is introduced to the system at that speed this increesed air speed (pressure) would translate to hp or Tq gains at a that speed wouldn't it (RAM AIR INDUCTION)

I have two air pressure events you can contemplate as you hear them. The one you want to hear is at 2:31 seconds. With your mouth, inhale and whisper, "Whoa" real loud. Did you hear that drop in pressure once I cleared the white motor home?

So, you tell me if I took that much air to cause the throttle plates to take the whole mess INN, I dropped any RAM you think is happening = Ass I haul AZZ like a glider in the air, I have all that HP climbing = FAC That RAM! Does that say, "(motor Tq pressure)" my scam on the ram effect? For the ambient changes no pressure under vacuum. I am using your abstract:

MTqP = 1Atmo (14.7 PSI) ~ Every stroke closed I'm INN ah gonna equal you OUT my HOLE FAC Tore you another one.

So, would you agree, you heard a drop in air pressure @ 2:31 seconds, and if that pressure needs to be in a ram effect, would you not have to double the pressure to equal the 2:31 second air suck?

You = V-Stack SUCK\/GEAR!

In the beginning of that vid, I flew past that truck and I was so close to it like a wall, I heard something come off the front of that car. Then the video made it clear what I heard was that air-pop is SUCK-GEAR going the other way is push my vacuum off the truck is suck that 1Atmo all UP = Pops back to 14.7 Pee INN YER EYE my exhaust note!

Get It? Make any social science sense? I get CC in here and it's all over smoking yer ass is UP!
