Air filter ... sealer strip?
10/16/17 11:01 AM

Guys - I ordered a new air filer that looks just like the one in the pic, but does not have what appears to be a sealer strip in the pic. I haven't gotten started removing any plastics yet, so wanted to check to see if I'll need that, before doing so.

There is some stripping on the filter. All the way around, except where the small 'grab tab' is at.That side, nothing.Guess you could always pick some up at the hardware store?

If this is something a new filter normally comes with, I'd get a return shipping label from them and send er back unless they will mail you a strip.

extrapolator,

Is this an OEM replacement The filter or aftermarket? The K&N that I have on my 08 has a sealing gel/paste that I put on the lip of the filter to seal it. I'm wondering if the one you have is supposed to have the same gel.

Guys - It's an OEM filter, and after looking closer at it again, it turns out that 3 sides of it already do have a thin foam-ish layer pre-attached to it. Sorry, but I didn't noticed it the first time I handled it. So it seems like it's good to go.

Thanks for the responses, and sorry I wasted y'all's time

They remove it for better flow. I've used my BMC and can't tell the dif compared to an OEM with screen intact. I guess you loose a couple ounces by removing the screen. Maybe pick up 1 hp on top.
If you're not going to get rain in there, might be worthwhile.

Oh I see. Well, we surely get rain here in FL, and even some rain up in the NC mountains on our (hopefully) annual ride. That, and I'm not looking to squeeze ever bit o' power out of 'er, so I'll prob leave it be. Tks again all.
