chain length
10/22/09 1:15 PM

I've ordered some Marchenisi wheels for my bike. I still haven't gotten a response in Q&A as to whether anyone knows the weight of stock wheels. Rook sez the're real heavy, LOL. I was trying to figure out the moment of inertia for different wheels. Can't find the weight of the stock wheels on any spec sheets.
Anyway, I'm going to put on a 44 tooth sprocket. How long of a chain will I need. I'm thinking 120 links is good. That's one size they come in. Stock is 116 and three teeth more shouldn't be that much....should it?
Anyone out there running a 44 tooth sprocket?

Bikeland.org- it's the owners forum where people actually have answers:

Use the search option for any tech info- it is there in countless threads.

Come on, Mass. You really have to spread the word a bit more if you don't mind my saying. Tell us you don't know the exact weight of ZX-14 wheels and innumerable other facts and figures regarding wheel weight. I know I've read you post it before. You're the wheel king around here. You getting sick of typing?

OK, thanks to Mass I have the answer.
Stock wheels= 11.6# front, 19.5# rear
For the chain length question, and all I had to do was look at the sprocket and it became obvious...there's one link every two teeth...

For 3 links that would be 1 1/2 links so add one link and adjust axle foreward, or add two and adjust rearward.

Now my next decision is whether to get new rubber for the new rims. Plenty left on the stockers but....well, you know

Get rid of the stock tires, they are garbage IMHO.
Drop the $$$ on a new set and you'll thank me after your first ride.

Do some burnouts on the stocker first.
