Fire
08/25/20 9:30 AM

It's strange, when I retired I moved into dense woods with a high chance of fire. This summer, back in the SF Bay Area, they got hit by dry lightning. Fires are burning in all of my old riding areas. The Junction narrowly avoided burning down. Haven't heard news about Alice's. The big redwoods will survive the fire but it's heartbreaking for the homeowners who live up there.

It is truly heartbreaking to see this year after year, I wish CA would do something to manage their forest to help reduce the risk that homes like yours and others are not at risk of a fire every year that only mother nature can help put out.

I moved in pre-retirement to the mountains in northern AZ. The forest management here vs CA is different. AZ clears the downed and dead trees into giant pile in the forest. I can only hope that in the future CA will begin to manage the forest to reduce the risk to homes like Mad's and others in the future. I work with a lady whose family was from Paradise CA, I say was because the entire town burned down last year from a terrible fire. Luckily none of her family was killed but almost her entire extended family lost everything the family had build and developed over several generations.

Well, around 70% of California forests are federally owned so...
It's funny, Trump is sort of correct about one thing. "Sweeping the forests"
I rake up tons of sticks and wood off my lot. Keep the forest floor mostly barren.
Trim my tree branches as high as I can reach them etc. But, if the fire crowns or as
long as we have overgrown vacant lots, I'm screwed.
