Steering Stem Socket review
11/05/21 8:21 PM

Bought on ebay from gbmotorcycleproducts2016(3. The tool appears to be well made. It shipped from UK, and arrived a few days prior to the estimated arrival date. Paid $46 including shipping, which isn't cheap but also won't break the bank. Arriving it had a very slight amount of rust in places, a light coating of oil appears to have remedied this minor issue. I used it today and it worked perfectly, very precise fitting.

An alternative was to buy a wrench. But the wrenches are comparably priced, and it's much easier to torque to spec with a socket. I think this socket will fit many bikes, although it's not clear exactly which. That's another advantage wrenches have, is most appear to be the adjustable type and may be more flexible in their application.

Nice! It looks like you need a special socket to fit that nut properly. There must be a Kawasaki tool and I'll bet it's a lot more expensive than the one you got.

At least in my service manual, Kaw list using the wrench 57001-1100. It appears to be about the same price as this socket. The BikeMaster one is mid 30s and would work well enough, you can use a torque wrench with it but need to do calculations (which isn't a big deal, but can be confusing).

If someone has time and tools, it would be fairly easy to make one of these. I don't think in this case, it really needs to be hardened or anything. So you'd have $50 in it between materials and labor assuming someone could machine the parts and weld them together.

The fit is very precise, this is a well made socket for sure.

Ground an old shock tool to crank the step dealie for a stiffer spring? Made that fit so I can turn it loose to lube and then hand tighten it by feel. No torque for me. Then I add what little thread gap pull-up in the nut when tightening. All by feel with long bar and know how tight I want it. Right? Throw a fork in and pick which pinch you want so the top crown does not bow but what little thread gap is pulled up by the center nut, I want both triple and and top crown to float flat square down with one pinch at either end of the triple.
